Venom Record October Thursday Box Office

Despite the low Rotten Tomatoes score, the fanboys came out to see the new Sony Venom movie starring Tom Hardy as the flick netted the Thursday advanced previews box office record.

Venom nabbed $10 million domestically, which beat out Paranormal Activity 3’s $8 million back in 2011 for Thursday, with that film going on to open to over $56 million.

It’s has been estimated that Venom will have an opening box office of around $65 million, which is in line with Sony’s first Amazing Spider-Man, but Sony has actually estimated it a bit lower at $55 million.

For a comparison, Amazing Spider-Man 2 opened with $15.4 million for its Thursday night preview and went on to bring in $91.6 million for its opening weekend.

The first Amazing Spider-Man actually kicked off on a Tuesday, so it’s harder to compare the opening to Venom.

Marvel Studios Ant-Man and the Wasp recently had an $11.5 million Thursday and went on to open with $75.8 million.

I’ll probably go see Venom tonight, and I am trying to stay away from online comments and negative reviews and go in with an open mind.
