First Look At Bruce Campbell In Ash Vs. Evil Dead TV Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21197:]]

Check out a first look above at Bruce Campbell as Ash from the upcoming Starz Ash Vs. Evil Dead TV series.

EW.com debuted the image asking Campbell and Sam Raimi what Ash has been up to since the 22 years we last seen him.

“Not much!” Campbell offered. “He was perfectly happy doing basically nothing: telling lies about how he lost his hand in bars late at night. That was basically his MO. So, he’s not really the guy who should be dealing with this right now. But…he is. He’s our guy!”

“He’s the only one stupid enough to really tamper with those spirits,” Sam Raimi added, who returned to direct the first episode of the new series. “And he does. But he’s also still a really good monster fighter. So, he’s also going to be kicking some deadite buttocks, if you’ll pardon the French.”

“It’s The Searchers with carnage and mayhem,” Campbell said. “I’m relegated a little bit into the John Wayne mode these days with my team—the young, virile, evil fighters who will pair up with Ash and take on this nemesis: this never ending, ever evolving nemesis.”

Ash Vs Evil Dead premiers with ten episodes in the Fall also starring Ray Santiago and Dana Delorenzo, and the show will be featured Friday, July 10th at Comic-Con.

Synopsis:

Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

Sam Raimi Agrees: Spider-Man 3 Is Awful

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18552:]]

Sam Raimi is responsible for bringing the best interpretation of Spider-Man to the big screen with his 2002 movie starring Tobey Maguire. He then followed it up with a sequel, which was well-received, but Raimi’s third movie, Spider-Man 3,  is considered a bust.

Spider-Man 3 actually did well at the box office (it’s the fifth best Marvel comic book movie in the U.S.), but don’t let the numbers fool you as fans disliked the movie in droves.

Now while appearing on the Nerdist Podcast, Sam Raimi (who is said to be in talks with Sony for new Spider-Man movies) talks about Spider-Man 3.

“It’s a movie that just didn’t work very well. I tried to make it work, but I didn’t really believe in all the characters, so that couldn’t be hidden from people who loved Spider-Man,” Raimi said. “If the director doesn’t love something, it’s wrong of them to make it when so many other people love it. I think [raising the stakes after Spider-Man 2] was the thinking going into it, and I think that’s what doomed us. I should’ve just stuck with the characters and the relationships and progressed them to the next step and not tried to top the bar. I think that was my mistake. [But] directors don’t like to talk about their bad films.”

It’s then suggested by the podcast hosts that the word “bad” isn’t the right word for Spider-Man 3, with Raimi offering, “Awful!”

Raimi is then asked if given the chance, would he do Spider-Man 3 over again.

“I wouldn’t make that movie,” Raimi said. “If I had a different story with characters that I cared about and was engaging, yes, in a second. I love Spider-Man. That was never the issue, just that I made the wrong story, the wrong way. That’s everything.

“I did the best I could,” Raimi added.

Marvel Doesn’t Want Andrew Garfield As Spider-Man

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18308:]]

With Marvel and Sony said to be in talks for Spider-Man to come to the MCU, further details have come to light.

Earlier, it was learned that Sam Raimi participated in talks with Sony, and that Captain America directors Joe and Anthony Russo had offered their services to be on board as producers.

Now Marvel’s plans for Spider-Man have possibly become known as Latino Review has a rumor that Marvel would reboot the franchise.

It’s said Marvel doesn’t want anything to do with Marc Webb or even Sam Raimi’s previous films, and would reboot Spider-Man with a new actor focusing on the character’s teenage issues with less romance and no origin story.

It’s stated Marvel feels the romance themes in Spider-Man have been done to death; however, it’s said Amy Pascal of Sony Pictures wasn’t happy with the idea of getting rid of Andrew Garfield as she supports the studios’ choice of actors.

It’s noted that Pascal may not have a choice, which is what she said when e-mails revealing a conversation with the former head of WB movies, Jeff Robinov, became known.

According to another report, Sony is due to have a Spider-Man summit in January to get things on the right path. Whether that involves Marvel in any capacity is currently unknown.

Update: More e-mails have become known revealing plans for a Spider-Man movie in 2017 and more.

Leaked: Russo Bros. Offered Avengers 3 & 4; Could Produce Spider-Man

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18304:]]

The leaks continue at Sony as a result of a series of hacks.

It recently became known that Marvel wanted Spider-Man to come home and be featured in Captain America 3.

Now, further insights into the potential deal are made known through additional e-mails.

The Brazilian website, Overtice.com, managed to get ahold of a series of e-mails and exchanges from co-chairman of Sony Pictures, Amy Pascal.

RUSSO BROS.

Pascal had communications with the Russo Bros., who directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier and are directing Captain America: Civil War for Marvel Studios.

The e-mails reveal that the Russo Bros. are likely to direct The Avengers Infinity War: Part 1 and Part 2, and they assured Pascal that regardless what happens with The Avenger 3 – Part 1 and 2, they are still going to direct the Gray Man movie for Sony, in which they want Robert Downey Jr. to star.

Another e-mail reveals that Joe Russo told Pascal they can produce Spider-Man as a result of a new contract. It’s unclear if the Russo’s would be working independent of Marvel or for both Marvel and Sony.

FUTURE OF SPIDER-MAN AT SONY:
Venom, Sam Raimi, Sinister Six, Jeff Robinov

Pascal also talks about the future of Spider-Man at Sony where e-mails reveal the state of the franchise is up in the air.

Spider-Man producer Avi Arad asked Pascal to greenlight the Venom movie based on sales and promotion of the Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes line, which prominently features the character.

In an update on an earlier report about Sony asking Sam Raimi for assistance, the new e-mails reveal that Raimi has had talks with Sony about Spider-Man.  Pascal also remarked that while Raimi did a great job with his first two Spider-Man movies, she compared Raimi to “Joel Schumacher” with the third.

Another interesting conversation is revealed with the former head of Warner Bros. movie studios, Jeff Robinov, who was behind The Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel, and is now with Sony. Robinov seems pretty adamant that Pascal and Sony not make a deal with Marvel.

“You can’t go back to Marvel,” Robinov is quoted as saying.

The exchange continues with Pascal revealing just how unsure she is with Sony’s Spider-Man plans as she responds, “I’m worried Sinister Six might not be the right [way to go],” and, “I just have the Spider-Man universe and not the Marvel universe.”

Pascal then asks Robinov for further help, with Robinov actually recommending Stan Lee or someone else in the industry with credibility and knowledge of Spider-Man.

“Can you help me figure it out tomorrow? Unless I make the partnership with Marvel and Spider-man to join their world, I’m running out of options,” Pascal said.

Leaked: Sony Wanted Sam Raimi Back On Spider-Man

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18239:]]

In an update on a recent article, it’s being said that as a result of Sony getting hacked, information has leaked revealing the studio wanted to bring back Sam Raimi on the franchise as a director or producer.

The new information comes from SlashFilm, where in their own report about the leak, it’s stated the Wall Street Journal mentioned that Sam Raimi was wanted by Sony for Spider-Man; however, the most recent version of the WSJ article makes no mention of Raimi.

It’s likely the original WSJ article has been edited to remove reference to Raimi, but whether it was due to writer error or other factors is presently unknown. The WSJ article does make note: “This article has been updated from its original version.”

Other information previously cited was news of Sony and Marvel in talks for Marvel to take over the franchise, and for Spider-Man to be featured in Captain America 3.

According to the report, the talks between Marvel and Sony fell apart.

Sam Raimi directed the three Spider-Man movies in 2002, 2004 and 2007.

The series will star Bruce Campell as Ash, with Sam Raimi directing the first episode.

The official description reads:

Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead.  When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal.  Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

“Starz first worked with Sam and Rob on Spartacus, and we are thrilled to be back in business with them,” Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director of Starz, said in a statement.  “With Sam writing and directing and Bruce Campbell returning to the screen, we are certain the show will give Evil Dead fans around the world the fix they’ve been craving.”

Wolverine In Spider-Man? That Was The Plan Says Hugh Jackman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:10948:]]

Comic book movie fans’ wildest dream is for the film studios to one day do a gigantic Marvel crossover featuring Wolverine, Iron Man, the Avengers, Spider-Man and X-Men.

The actors all seem up for it, but as corporate red-tape is involved the chances of seeing it actually happen on the big screen seem slim to none.

However, it turns out that wasn’t the case back in 2000 when Sam Raimi was filming Spider-Man as Sony was going to allow Hugh Jackman to cameo as Wolverine (owned by Fox Studios).

Hugh Jackman told the Huffington Post all about it.

In the first “Spider-Man” — Kevin Feige reminded me of this — we really tried to get me to come on and do something, whether it was a gag or just to walk through the shot or something. The problem was, we couldn’t find the suit. The suit was stuck in some thing. And so when they were in New York when I was there, we couldn’t get it together. So, you know, I actually asked some high level people about it. Because the optimist in me goes, “Why not? Why can’t we do it? You know, a split cast or whatever?” And someone reminded that the amount of money Fox paid compared to the amount of money Disney paid is very different [laughs]. So how you split that pie up? God knows. But in the comic books, what’s great about it is they’re just mashing together all the time — and it’s awesome. And people are like, “Yeah, well, let’s get this one with that!” And, you know, I still think, one day, there may be an ability to do it.

While it seems rather strange that they “couldn’t find his suit,” just think if they did what it may have led to down the road.

As Jackman notes, perhaps one day we’ll get that crossover movie.

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 Storyboards Revealed

Storyboards for “Spider-Man 4” have hit the net from artist Jeffrey Henderson.

“Spider-Man 4” was to be directed by Sam Raimi and feature John Malkovich as the Vulture and Anne Hathaway as Black Cat.

As we know, it never came to be and Sony went on with the reboot, Amazing Spider-Man, featuring Andrew Garfield.

Henderson didn’t reveal too much about “Spider-Man 4” as he cites loyalty to Raimi, but does offer that it would have been a better take than Spider-Man 3.

It would’ve been one absolutely kick ass movie. Seriously. We were working on some crazy- cool stuff, because everyone, from top to bottom, felt that Spidey 3 was a bit of a ‘missed opportunity’, and we all really wanted to help Sam take SM4 to another level so he could end the series on a high note.

Check out the “Spider-Man 3” storyboards:

To put the numbers in some perspective, last year at this time from Disney saw John Carter debut with a disappointing $30 million.

So with numbers that Oz The Great And Powerful has been bringing in it comes as a no-brainer that Disney has already green lit a sequel, albeit without Sam Raimi returning to helm.

Mitchell Kapner, screenwriter on the first, will be writing the sequel.
