Peter Capaldi Rumored To Be Leaving Doctor Who

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22321:]]

Update: Peter Capaldi is returning for Doctor Who Series 10.

Is it time to hit the panic button?

Amidst dwindling viewership for the new season of Doctor Who, not only is it confirmed that Jenna Coleman is leaving, but now it’s said Peter Capaldi is contemplating leaving the series

That’s not all as the UK’s Mirror is also reporting there may be a change in the way Doctor Who episodes are released.

With ratings and the numbers of viewers down this year the Mirror is stating sources are considering scrapping next year’s series of Doctor Who and screening feature-length specials instead, similar to the way episodes of Sherlock are released.

It’s said Doctor Who is the BBC’s biggest-selling program overseas, but according to the report, Doctor Who has hit a “crisis period” as viewership is now below four million (down around 2 million).

Regarding Peter Capaldi leaving the show, the reason given is said because Capaldi wants to spend more time with his family.

So with Capaldi and Coleman leaving, execs are considering scrapping next season and instead releasing a couple of “Sherlock-style” feature-length episodes plus the Doctor Who Christmas Special.

It’s also rumored the BBC may reboot Doctor Who with a new cast in 2017 with Richard Madden (Game Of Thrones, Cinderella) said to be at the top of the list to play the new Doctor. A new female Doctor Who is also said to be a contender.

The BBC is also developing a Doctor Who spinoff aimed at younger viewers with Class.

Jenna Coleman Confirms Leaving Doctor Who

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22164:]]

Jenna Coleman has confirmed reports she is leaving Doctor Who and that Series 9 will be her final season.

Coleman is leaving to star as Queen Victora for an ITV production.

“I have left the Tardis – it’s happened. I’ve filmed my last scenes,” Coleman told the BBC. “It’s been in the works for a very long time. [Writer] Steven [Moffat] and I sat down a year and a half ago and tried to work out the best place to do it and tell a really good story. We’re not going to give any details but it will happen at some point this season… We worked out a really good story arc out so hopefully people will love it.”

Coleman continued with mention it was a tough decision.

“There are not a lot of jobs where you get to have an alien as your best mate and get to run away from monsters… it’s been so much fun, I love it,” she said. It’s such a unique beast it’s been really special. I think I’m in denial. I see Peter all the time and I still see Matt all the time, so I kind of believe I still have the keys to the Tardis.”

“Doctor Who” returns for Series 9 this Saturday the 19th on BBCA.

Jenna Coleman Returning For Doctor Who

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18502:]]

Contrary to earlier rumors stating Jenna Coleman was leaving Doctor Who, the BBC now confirms Coleman will return for Series 9.

“It’s wonderful,” Coleman told the BBC. “I get a whole other series of stories with the Doctor and I couldn’t walk away with the story being unresolved. There is so much more to do. I think they’ve finally just reached a point where they really understand each other.”

Peter Capaldi is also happy that Coleman is returning.

“I’m thrilled. Jenna has just been fantastic and such a pleasure to work with,” the 12th Doctor added.

Jenna Coleman first made a surprise appearance in 2012 alongside Matt Smith in the first episode of Series 7, “Asylum of the Daleks.” From there, she would continue on to when Peter Capaldi first appeared and on to Series 8.

“The arrival of the 12th Doctor has just kind of dropped this whole bombshell and allowed the dynamic to totally change, so I think just when Clara was feeling more comfortable in the relationship, it has suddenly thrown something new up,” Coleman said.

Jenna Coleman Rumored To Be Leaving Doctor Who

A week before Series 8 of Doctor Who is set to debut, it’s being said that the new companion, Jenna Coleman, has quit the show and will be leaving by Christmas.

The UK gossip site The Mirror is reporting that Jenna Coleman, who plays Clara Oswald, will be exiting the series after 18 months in what may be a mutual decision.

According to the site’s “source,” it’s stated a new companion may be coming on board to keep the series “moving and fast-paced.”

It’s also said a plan is already in the works as Jenna’s departure has been discussed, and that Coleman exiting with the Doctor Who Christmas Story will be the right time as it works out with the story.

Jenna Coleman is currently taking part in the Doctor Who worldwide tour with Peter Capaldi and showrunner Steven Moffat.

Press Release

The new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, stepped on set today for his first full day of filming as production begins on series 8 of the hit BBC show.

10.2 million tuned-in on Christmas Day to get their first glimpse of Capaldi in one of TV’s most iconic roles in the festive special The Time of the Doctor’, which saw Matt Smith hang-up his bow tie after 4 years in the role.

Capaldi was revealed as the Doctor in a live BBC One show in August, after months of speculation about the next Doctor’s identity.

Arriving on set in Cardiff to begin filming, Peter Capaldi said:

“New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I’m emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world.”

Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer, added:

“First the eyebrows! Then, at Christmas, the face! Coming soon, the whole Doctor. In the Cardiff studios, the Capaldi era begins.”

Accompanying the Doctor on his adventures will be companion Clara Oswald, played by Jenna Coleman.

The first episode of series 8 has been written by Steven Moffat with the second episode penned by Phil Ford.  These are the first episodes that Peter will shoot and are directed by Ben Wheatley.

Ben Stephenson, Controller of Drama Commissioning, said:

“Excitement and anticipation fills the air as Peter Capaldi’s Doctor takes control of the TARDIS for the very first time today. It’s going to be one hell of a ride and I can’t wait for the journey to start.”

Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One, commented:

“A new year, a new face, a new Doctor! 2014 has arrived and it’s Peter Capaldi’s time so let the adventures begin!”

Filming is taking place in Cardiff until August 2014.  Doctor Who is executive produced by Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin, and produced by Nikki Wilson and Peter Bennett.  It is a BBC Cymru Wales production for BBC One.

5 Doctor Who 2013 Christmas Special Set Images With Matt Smith & Jenna Coleman

Matt Smith has begun filming his last episode as the 11th Doctor as set images from Cardiff for the Doctor Who Christmas Special have landed online where we also see Jenna Coleman.

Matt Smith recently shaved his head (interestingly enough, so did Karen Gillan!) for a new role, so he had to don a wig.

The Doctor Who Christmas Special will also introduce Peter Capaldi, the new Doctor. Showrunner Stephen Moffat recently described the 12th Doctor as much fiercer.

A spoiler of sorts was also recently revealed as an actor on set let loose a tweet and image about a villain to be featured in the episode.

The BBC is also gearing up promotion for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary that airs in November as a new Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt poster was released.

12th Doctor Who Audition Scripts Hit The Net

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:9774:]]

Steven Moffat is actively seeking out the 12th Doctor who will be replacing the outgoing Matt Smith when the 50th Anniversary and the Christmas Special air later this year.

The BBC has made available three audition scripts for the 12th Doctor Who, one of which can be found below.

It’s noted that the audition scripts for the next Doctor Who are just that and are not supposed to imply any specific details.

The following scene involves the new Doctor with Clara, who is played in the series by Jenna Coleman.

For the other two scripts check out the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine on sale now.

Said Steven Moffat:

This scene will never appear in the show itself. Also, you’ll learn very little about Number 12 – naturally, this was written before the casting began […] Fairly generic Doctor stuff, for someone to spin into a new version of the Time Lord. So, with the proviso that there’s nothing to learn here (won’t stop you trying, I know) here is – sort of, kind of, not really – the first scene for Number 12…”

INT. TARDIS
[The new Doctor is checking out the new body. Clara, watching. It’s been a few minutes, they’re both still adjusting.]

THE DOCTOR: Right then, eyesight. Not bad, bit blue. Ears – not pointy, right way up, more or less level. Face – well I’ve got one. Oh, no – French!
CLARA: French.
THE DOCTOR: I’ve deleted French! Plus all cookery skills, and the breast stroke. And hopping. Never mind hopping, who needs to hop. Ohh, the kidneys are interesting. Never had that before – interesting kidneys.
CLARA: Are you all right?
THE DOCTOR: I don’t know, do I look all right?
CLARA: I don’t know.
THE DOCTOR: How’s the face? Seems all right from the inside. Nice action, responsive. Bit less heft on the chin. How is it?
CLARA: It’s… okay.
THE DOCTOR: Okay?
CLARA: It’s a bit… you know.
THE DOCTOR: No I don’t, I haven’t seen it yet.
CLARA: Maybe it’s just new.
THE DOCTOR: Have you changed height?
CLARA: No.
THE DOCTOR: You sure?
CLARA: It’s you, your height, you’re the one who’s changed.
THE DOCTOR: And look at your nose.
CLARA: What about my nose?
THE DOCTOR: It was really cute, I loved your nose, you should’ve kept it.
CLARA: I did, it’s the same nose, it’s the same all of me. You’re the one who’s… regenerated, whatever you call it.
THE DOCTOR: Are you wearing a smell?
CLARA: Do you mean perfume?
THE DOCTOR: Yes, I suppose it could be perfume.
CLARA: You’ve always liked that perfume, you said so.
THE DOCTOR: No I didn’t, that was the Doctor.
CLARA: You’re the Doctor.
THE DOCTOR: Yes, I suppose I am. That’s going to take a bit of getting used to.
CLARA: Yeah, it really is.
