Star Wars: Rogue One blasted away all the comptetion at the box office as Disney's first standalone movie brought in $290 million worldwide.

Rogue One also managed to beat out estimates as its opening weekend in the U.S. brought in over $155 million, which marks the second biggest ever opening for the month of December (behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens $248 million).

Rotten Tomatoes has Star Wars: Rogue One at 84% positive among the critics, with 90% of fans stating they liked it.

I felt Star Wars: Rogue One was pretty good, basically what I expected, but I found the story severly lacking as it was another rehash of the same old same old (just like what Force Awakens did). Rogue One was kind of boring as well (my 8-year-old fell asleep within the first 20 minutes and slept through the entire thing), but admittely the end battle and Vader scene was pretty cool. Disney is 0-for-2 in my book. Comparison to Empire Strikes Back is laughable at best as well.

"Star Wars: Rogue One" has a December 16, 2016 release directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are producing, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers.

Synopsis:

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure.
