Director Dan Trachtenberg is following up Prey with a new standalone Predator movie with Badlands which follows the Hulu streaming service movie.
No plot details are known, but Badlands is said to be set in the future, while Prey followed actress Amber Midthunder as a Comanche warrior set 300 years in the past who battled a highly evolved alien predator.
Trachtenberg earned an Emmy nomination for the movie, and Prey is said to be Hulu’s biggest-ever premiere, earning the most viewing hours in its first three days among all TV series and movies.
Variety adds it’s unclear at this time if Badlands will get released on Hulu or be released in theaters.
Dan Trachtenberg is also known for 10 Cloverfield Lane, and he has directed an episode of The Boys, Black Mirror, The Lost Symbol, and directs and episode of the final season of Stranger Things.
The Predator franchise is a series of science fiction action-horror films that began with the release of Predator in 1987, directed by John McTiernan and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The franchise has since expanded to include sequels, spin-offs, comic books, novels, and video games.
Carl Weathers, who also starred in the first film, recently passed away at the age of 76.
Predator 2 released in 1990 starred Danny Glover; Predators in 2010; The Predator in 2018, and Alien vs. Predator in 2004 and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem in 2007.
Disney now owns the IP with the purchase of Fox that went through in 2019.
