Nova Is One Of All Time Greats Says ‘Annihilation: Scourge Alpha’ Writer Matthew Rosenberg

Yesterday saw Marvel Comics release the solicit information and covers for Annihilation: Scourge Alpha #1, which will be a prelude to the main event, written by Matthew Rosenberg who comes out on social media offering good things to say about the book and Nova.

“The war isn’t over. Nova. The Silver Surfer. Beta Ray Bill. The Fantastic Four. The first shots fired of ANNIHILATION: SCOURGE will by @JUANAN_RAMiREZ & myself this November,” Rosenberg tweeted. “The original ANNIHILATION and ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST are among the very best event books @Marvel has ever put together. Huge universe defining battles, real personal stakes, insane action, and some of the best characters in the Marvel Universe. Our goal here is to follow in their footsteps, but create something really different and new. I really think folks are going to like what we’ve been cooking up.”

The tweets were followed up by numerous retweets and replies of support, including some from yours truly, with fans following up about their excitement that Nova will be back, which saw Rosenberg confirm it will be Richard Rider and that he is excited to write the character.

“And I can’t say much more about anything, but yes, it’s Richard Rider. I am so happy to be writing Nova. Rich is one of the all time greats and we aim to remind everyone why,” Rosenberg said.

Marvel Cosmic is back with Annihilation: Scourge and Nova

Annihilation, which came out around 2005/6, and is again being reprinted in Omnibus format this September, saw Annihilus and the Annihilation Wave from the Negative Zone invade the Marvel Universe. Annihilation actually happened at the same time as Civil War, but while the Earth heroes were battling amongst themselves, heroes such as Richard Rider Nova, the Silver Surfer, Super-Skrull, Drax and more were saving the universe.

Annihilation actually got me back into reading the world of comics after a lengthy absence and led to me creating this very website.

Back in the day, Cosmic Book News was created to promote the Marvel COSMIC comic books (hence COSMIC BOOK NEWS), which saw us exclusively reveal solicits, previews, interviews and more. We even regularly directly sent Marvel Comics our reviews, and they even asked us to send them character tips as well.

I also created a message board strictly focusing on Cosmic when the Annihilation boards closed down at the old Comic Book Resources. The Cosmic Book News message board is archived here. Now that Marvel Cosmic seems to be back, maybe I’ll give the board a reboot?
