Marvel Studios releases the synopsis for the Eternals movie which reveals the villains of the flick along with mention of The Avengers: Endgame.

Worth a mention is that Kevin Feige stated the Deviants will be different in the movie than the comic books, for some reason.

We also see that the film will explain why the Eternals haven’t been around and why they didn’t do anything about Thanos and the Infinity Stones, particularly in regards to Infinity War and The Avengers: Endgame; the comics do explain things, but I won’t reveal spoilers if you are not familiar with the material.

Eternals synopsis:

Marvel Studios’ The Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, The Deviants.

The outstanding ensemble cast include Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as the cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos, Salma Hayak as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-soul Sprite, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, Barry Keoghan as the aloof longer Druig, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena. Kit Harrington was cast as Dane Whitman.

Directed by Chloe Zhao, who helmed the critically acclaimed Sundance film The Rider, and produced by Kevin Feige, The Eternals opens in U.S. theaters on November 6, 2020.

Eternals changes everything about the MCU says Feige

Regarding what Kevin Feige had to say about the Eternals, he actually hinted at a big MCU ret-con (similar to Captain Marvel).

“[Eternals is] an epic that spans 7,000 years of human history, has cosmic connotations, and changes everything we know about the MCU,” Kevin Feige revealed at the recent Brazil Comic-Con. “The movie, it’s ambitious, and takes place over 7000 years from present-day to Mesopotamia to all sorts of locations and time periods and really feels like nothing we’ve done before.”

Feige also mentioned the Avengers.

“The Eternals know about the existence of the Avengers. The Avengers don’t know much about the existence of the Eternals… yet,” teased Feige.

Feige also confirmed the flick will feature the mighty Celestials, who are cosmic beings responsible for creating both the Eternals and Celestials, and said the film will offer a new take on the Deviants, who in the comics, look more like monsters (Thanos is half-Deviant).

“Deviants are in the film. The Deviants in the comic book mythology were…extremely important plans of the Celestials…and we will see Deviants that look unlike anything we’ve seen in the comics. This is a new form of Deviants that we’ll see in the movie,” said Feige.
