Emila Clarke, known for Game of Thrones, has joined the MCU and will star in the upcoming series, Secret Invasion, coming to Disney Plus.
The actress who played Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO series is playing an unknown role in Secret Invasion and joins Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Zawe Ashton, and Olivia Colman.
Jackson returns as Nick Fury, Mendelsohn returns as the Skrull, Talos, from Captain Marvel, Kingsley Ben-Adir is set to play a villain, and Olivia Colman's role is unknown.
Secret Invasion is said to follow a group of shape-shifting aliens who have been infiltrating Earth for years.
Some fans think Emilia Clarke could be playing Abigail Brand of SWORD, as SWORD was featured recently in WandaVision; Clarke is also the most recent cast member of Game of Thrones to join the MCU as Kit Harington and Richard Madden will star in Eternals.
Emila Clarke also starred in Solo: A Star Wars Story for Lucasfilm and Disney.
Secret Invasion coming to Disney Plus
At December's Disney Investor Day event last year, head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige offered the following about the series:
"Now I want to talk about a couple of projects that we haven't announced, yet. The first of which is Secret Invasion coming to Disney Plus. Samuel L. Jackson is back as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelson from Captain Marvel returns as the Skrull, Talos. Next to Civil War, Secret Invasion is arguably the biggest crossover comic event in the last twenty years and we are bringing it to Disney Plus. It's about a sect of Skrulls who have infiltrated every level of life on Earth."
It's also assumed Secret Invasion will tie directly into Captain Marvel 2 starring Brie Larson where it's thought the Skrulls will again be a factor as Zawe Ashton is thought to be playing the Skrull Queen Veranke.
Captain Marvel 2 is due out November 11, 2022, so it's likely Secret Invasion will be released prior to that, maybe next year as filming is said to start soon.
