Following on the heels of the billion dollar box office success of Fast and Furious 7, James Wan has been confirmed to be not only directing Aquaman, but now the Robotech movie as well.
News of Robotech comes from THR, who states James Wan closed a deal with Sony to adapt the 1980s anime featuring mechas.
It’s further reported James Wan is committed to directing The Conjuring 2: The Endfield Experiment for New Line this Fall and will likely tackle his next project following The Conjuring sequel Spring of 2016.
Conjuring 2 is due out June 10, 2016, with Aquaman some time in 2018.
Robotech looks to be just getting off the ground.
Previously released leaked e-mails as a result of the Sony hack revealed Sony first thought about doing Robotech around May 2014, with it looking like they started to move forward on the project this past October as e-mails even offered the following description: “when an alien spacecraft crashes in the South Pacific, the people of Earth develop giant robots from the alien technology in order to fend off a wave of alien invasions.”
