Adi Shankar, known for producing Dredd and The Grey and the man behind the controversial Power Rangers fan film, announced on Facebook that an R-rated animated Castlevania series is coming to Netflix starting this year.

"BREAKING NEWS: Castlevania is a Netflix Original Series with Season 1 launching in 2017 and Season 2 in 2018," Shankar posted. "Furthermore, I personally guarantee that it will end the streak and be the western world’s first good video game adaptation. Kevin Kolde is the man and Seasons 1 & 2 were written by Warren f’ing Ellis."

Adi Shankar also offered a further update while speaking with IGN about the Castlevania series.

"This is very much Castlevania done in the vein of Game of Thrones," Shankar said.  [Warren Ellis] added so much depth to the material. [The series is] going to be R-rated as f-ck. This is going to be the best f-cking video game adaptation we've had to date."

Adi Shankar first announced the Castlevania series back in 2015.

"I’m producing a super violent Castlevania mini-series with my homies Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde. It’s going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head," Shankar said. "There will be a lot [of violence and gore]. The goal is to bring hard hitting anime to the America and be America’s first animated series for adults."

The Castlevania animated Netflix series will be an adaptation of the Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse video game, which followed Trevor Belmont as he fought his way to stop Dracula from ravaging Europe in the 1400's. Dracula's son, Alucard, was also featured in the game as an ally to Trevor Belmont and is speculated for the Netflix series.

Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse was originally released in 1989 for Nintendo from Konami.
