Last week saw news that DC is developing a Black Lightning TV series, and now it’s learned FOX has picked up the series.

THR reports Fox has given a pilot production commitment to Black Lightning from producer Greg Berlanti, and The Game‘s Salim and Mara Brock Akil.

The Akils will write and exec produce Black Lightning with Berlanti and his producing partner Sarah Schechte; Akil Productions and Berlanti Productions will produce in association with Warner Bros. TV.

Black Lighting was created back in 1977 by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden. The character’s powers, in the comics, include the ability to generate and magnify electro-magnetic phenomena and generate force fields.

If FOX ends up fully picking up Black Lightning, it will be the first broadcast series starring an African-American superhero.

Greg Berlanti is also behind The CW shows Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, and has the Booster Gold movie in the works.

A while back also saw comedian Orlando Jones vying for the role of Black Lightning.
