Summary

  • The Annihilators, a powerful team of cosmic superheroes, are making their way into the Marvel Future Fight game
  • The team was first introduced in Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning’s Marvel Cosmic
  • The update for the game includes new characters, uniforms, and upgrade

From the pages of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning’s Marvel Cosmic comes The Annihilators, including Quasar, Beta Ray Bill, Ronan, and Ikon, as Marvel’s most powerful team makes their way into the Marvel Future Fight game!

Abnett and Lanning’s (DnA) Marvel Cosmic started way back in 2005/6 with the late Keith Giffen’s stellar Annihilation event (you like Helldivers 2?! you’ll LOVE Annihilation!).

The event sees Fantastic Four villain Annihilus and his bug army from the Negative Zone invading the Marvel 616 universe. The Avengers? The other heroes? They’re nowhere to be found, as they were too busy on Earth fighting amongst themselves during Civil War while the entire universe was under siege and at risk of total annihilation!

Marvel Cosmic Golden Years under DnA

DnA wrote the Annihilation: Nova series, then the 2007 Richard Rider Nova series, penned Annihilation: Conquest and the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy series which inspired the James Gunn MCU movies. From there, DnA would write The Thanos Imperative (awesome), Realm of Kings, and out of The Thanos Imperative: Devastation would arise The Galaxy’s Mightiest Heroes — The Annihilators!

The Annihilators consists of Wendell Vaughn Quasar, the Cosmic Avenger, the Protector of the Universe; Ronan the Accuser of the Kree; Gladiator of the Sh’iar; the Korbite “brother” to Thor, Beta Ray Bill; none other than the Sentinel of the Spaceways himself, the Silver Surfer, and joining them included the Galadorian Spaceknight, Ikon. Richard Rider Nova is also featured.

Cosmic Book News actually got its start back then as we helped Marvel promote its Marvel Cosmic comic book line. Editor Bill Rosemann coined us as the “rabid” Marvel Cosmic fans!

“I’m also grateful for all the readers. We never had a huge following, but it was loyal,” Rosemann told Marvel.com back in 2017 in a retrospect interview. “Every issue there were about 35,000 fans who read every issue of NOVA and GUARDIANS and every issue of every [limited series] that was a part of all of our events. They helped spread the word and they were there along for the ride and never went away, and without them the books would’ve never even existed; there would be no film without those loyal readers.”

I bet Marvel Comics would love to have 35k readers now!
