Marvel Studios’ first Asian superhero movie Shang-Chi now has a director with Destin Daniel Cretton, who is directing Just Mercy, a film he wrote that happens to star Captain Marvel‘s Brie Larson and Black Panther‘s Michael B. Jordan.

Destin Cretton is also known for The Glass Castle, which also stars Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson and Naomi Watts.

Chinese-American writer Dave Callaham has been said to be writing the Shang-Chi script, which Deadline says “will modernize the hero to avoid stereotypes that many comic characters of that era were saddled with.” Callaham also wrote Wonder Woman 1984, and is writing Zombieland: Double Tap, The Expendables 4, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 and a new Mortal Kombat.
