Following reports that the movie is epic, now Aquaman is said to be extraordinary.
While the Aquaman trailer has yet to be released or any footage for that matter (look for the Aquaman trailer to drop at Comic-Con next month), the producers surrounding the film are excited for its release.
“James [Wan] has done an incredible job with his team,” Warner Bros. film chief Toby Emmerich told EW. “The film is taking you to a different place and imagining the underwater world in a way you haven’t seen before.”
Producer Peter Safran adds that Aquaman has “got the great action you expect, it’s got a lot of great humor, it works on so many levels … it’s a testament to James’ unique vision. I think it’s an extraordinary step in DC Universe that sets it on the right path.”
Geoff Johns, who has a co-writing and executive producer credit on the film (and recently announced he is launching a new production company) has only positive things to say as well.
“The underwater stuff has never been executed like this before,” Johns said. “The visual effects shots coming in are just beautiful. James can switch modes from horror to big bright colorful action to really emotional scenes. He’s so able to hit all these different genres.”
The article also notes “we’re hearing Aquaman is visually more punchy and with more humor than some of the previous DC films directed by Zack Synder that were known for a more grim aesthetic.”
Aquaman has a December 21, 2018 release starring Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm the Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, with Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Nicole Kidman is playing Queen Atlanna, and Dolph Ludgren is King Nereus.
