Back when Ben Affleck stepped down from directing the solo Batman movie it was also rumored he might be leaving the role.
It’s since been announced that Matt Reeves will be directing Batman, and now it’s apparently learned that Ben Affleck is not locked into playing the Dark Knight.
DCEU producer Charles Roven seems to insinuate to JoBlo that Ben Affleck potentially might not be Matt Reeve’s Batman when asked if there is any fear of Ben Affleck stepping down from the Batman role, as Roven replies with mention of: “If Ben plays that character…”
I mean, I’m not really involved with THE BATMAN, but from everything… We have a cursory involvement because that character is going to touch us some way. If Ben plays that character it’s going to touch some part of what we are doing. But I have no feeling whatsoever except positive that Matt loves Ben and the work that he has done as Batman, and Ben thinks that Matt is a really terrific filmmaker. I have every expectation that they are going to make a movie together.
As Roven notes, he does seem to think that Ben Affleck will still be the Batman in the solo movie, but Roven seems to be saying that it’s up to Matt Reeves.
The news of Ben Affleck possibly not being in Batman also follows Joe Manganiello stating he’s unsure if he will play Deathstroke.
With what Roven has to say about Ben Affleck not being guaranteed for the Batman movie and Manganiello stating something similar about Deathstroke, this seems to more or less substantiate a rumor that stated Matt Reeves is fully in charge of the Batman franchise.
Ben Affleck did congratulate Matt Reeves on getting the director’s gig for Batman, so bear that in mind.
