Some new details are learned about the role the Guardians of the Galaxy will have in Avengers: Infinity War.
For one, Avengers: Infinity War will take place four years following the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 2 movie.
That’s right, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 only takes place a few months following the first movie, which means events like Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming and Black Panther movies, all follow Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige offers to Cinema Blend in that four years, the Guardians of the Galaxy will have changed in small ways.
Yeah. They will have evolved slightly, in some recognizable ways.
Feige does offer the Guardians fo the Galaxy will essentially be the same team facing the same types of turmoil seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
But really they’ll be the Guardians and dealing with the sh-t storm they have to deal with.
It will be interesting to see what happens to the Guardians of the Galaxy and the four years since the second movie. I wonder how much they will touch upon the four year gap in Avengers: Infinity War? Also, what about the Nova Corps having the Power Stone? Thanos needs to aquire that, so maybe that’s the first stone he gets? Or the Last??
Feige does offer that the MCU timeline isn’t really set in stone, but more or less is for the Guardians movies because that’s how James Gunn wanted it.
Yeah, knowing that outside of the Guardians franchise, we don’t necessarily always date the movies. You don’t always know, we don’t say, ‘2012, 2013…’ We do in the Guardians because you do the math and 1988, and it’s 26 years later. But we never say, ‘Oh, this takes place in 2018, this takes place in 2017.’ But it was important for the story that James wanted to tell that they’re still relatively fresh in their new group.
The recent Doctor Strange Blu-Ray Infinity War featurette does offer a look at Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, and now we know the footage takes place in the MCU four years following Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Star-Lord pretty much looks the same, with the same sideburns, facial hair and jacket. Guess too much won’t change.
