Zack Snyder To Direct New Superman Movie

Zack Snyder has been named the director on the new Superman movie.

Snyder, no stranger to comic book adaptions, as he directed such hits as 300 and Watchmen, said: “I definitely expressed my love for the character and interest in seeing him treated right.”

Snyder added he is getting to work quick on the script, “The character deserves to be loved. It’s his time.”

The as-of-yet unnamed Superman movie is being produced by Christopher Nolan for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, which should begin filming by 2011 to retain copyrights, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“In the initial meetings, he’s been super-amazingly smart and also amazingly kind, filmmaker-to-filmmaker,” Snyder said of Nolan. “I have great respect for him. The process has been amazing so far, and it looks like nothing but pluses.”

The details include the film will come from a screenplay by frequent Nolan collaborator David S. Goyer and will apparently feature the villain General Zod.

Zack Snyder is also the director behind the recent animated movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole and the soon to be released Suckerpunch.

Update: The film is officially titled Man of Steel and will star Henry Cavill as Superman. Michael Shannon is playing Zod. Amy Adams is Lois Lane. Russell Crowe is Jor-El. Man of Steel gets released on June 14, 2013.

Brandon Routh recently played the Man of Steel on the big screen in 2006 with Superman Returns, which continued the Richard Donner movies starring Christopher Reeve.
