Has the season 6 finale that ticked off a lot of fans caught up to The Walking Dead?
The Walking Dead Season 7 has seen its ratings take a nosedive as the series is at its lowest point in four years.
Last Sunday's episode of The Walking Dead was just as forgettable as forgetting Tara and what's-his-name haven't been around. The episode fell below a 5.0 rating in the highly coveted adult demographic ages 18-49 for the first time since Season 3, with a 4.9.
10.4 million viewers turned in for Sunday's episode, which is also the lowest number of viewers for The Walking Dead since Season 3. The episode was also down a whopping 42 percent from the sky high ratings of the Season 7 premiere, which recorded over 17 million viewers. The Walking Dead DVR and on-demand viewing numbers are down as well.
Various reasons could be to blame for The Walking Dead's poor ratings:
It could be the fact that The Walking Dead Season 6 ended on a cliffhanger, which many fans viewed as a cheap gimmick. A friend of mine even said he was done with the show after that episode, which sounds like he may not be the only one.
Was the Season 7 premiere too much? Did the deaths of fan-favorites Abraham and Glenn cause The Walking Dead fans to say they've had too much?
Is The Walking Dead too predictable? I had a conversation with friends on Facebook about Sunday's episode being so bad. I said it's pretty much the norm for The Walking Dead to just have a good first and last episode, as much of what's in-between is basically just filler (meaning nothing much happens). "Why bother watching when nothing happens? I'll just watch the first and last episodes."
There is also the fact that the top two characters on the show, Rick and Daryl, have become Negan's b-tches. Who wants to watch that? I was watching Sunday's episode thinking back to when we had "Sheriff Rick" from Season 1. Now that was good television.
It could also be that there are too many new characters, and that fans don't want to watch them, which I think is evident by this past Sunday's episode being so weak.
It could very well be a combination of these things and more, but there is no doubt that eventually AMC has to breathe new life into The Walking Dead (maybe on the creative side). If you are a fan of the show, and there are still a lot of fans, you are in luck as The Walking Dead has been confirmed to be back for a Season 8.
