As expected, Marvel Studios announces the release date for the Scarlett Johansson Black Widow movie, which gets released May 1, 2020.
Cate Shortland is directing the movie, which also stars Rachel Weisz as Malena, Stranger Thingsâ David Harbour as Alexi, O-T Fagbenle as Mason, and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova.
âI donât think I could have played this iteration of Natasha 10 years ago,â said Johansson at the SDCC. âIt wouldâve been a very different film. I get to play Natsha as a fully realized woman and in all of her many facets. Iâm excited for fans to see the flawed side of her, what she perceives to be the flawed side of her. And Iâm looking to wipe out some of that red in my ledger, so you guys will be seeing a lot of that.â
Pugh describes her character, Yelena, as a âsister figure to Natasha,â while Fagbenle plays a contact from Black Widowâs past. âThereâs a kind of romantic undercurrent,â Fagbenle said. âAt least, Iâm kind of into her.â
âWhat is more exciting than the mythology of the Marvel universe?â Weisz added. âThere is nothing more exciting and escapist and interesting. But also theyâve really put at the forefront really strong, powerful female characters and Cate Shortland our director and working alongside Scarlett and Florence, two incredibly powerful characters. Malena, my character, is a pretty tough chick. David and O-T are pretty awesome too. I love men as well as women.â
The first footage from Black Widow also dropped revealing Taskmaster as the villain.
