As I have stated numerous times, I tip my hat to the Russo brothers as there hasnât been a whole lot of marketing surrounding The Avengers: Endgame, which means the flick will pay off even more when it finally gets released. Regarding the marketing, the Russo brothers comment on the lack thereof and compare it to when they watched Empire Strikes Back, and they even say they considered no marketing.
âWe did,â Joe Russo tells Empire Magazine. âWe talked about all scales of marketing. The thing thatâs most important to us is that we preserve the surprise of the narrative. When I was a kid and saw The Empire Strikes Back at 11 am on the day it opened, and sat there until 1-pm watching it back to back to back, it so profoundly moved me because I didnât know a damn thing about the story I was going to watch. Weâre trying to replicate that experience.â
As the article notes, the Russos took the same approach with The Avengers: Infinity War, which was a huge success, so they will have to âfollow up their greatest trick with an even greater trick.â
