Paramount Sets Release Dates For New Sonic and TMNT Movies For 2028

Paramount just locked in two major releases for the 2028 holiday season as the studio doubles down on Sonic and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Both franchises are now cornerstones of the Skydance-controlled studio, and today’s announcement makes clear where Paramount is placing its biggest bets going forward.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze Returning to Theaters in 2026

New TMNT Live-Action Hybrid Arrives November 17, 2028

The untitled live-action/CG hybrid Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie will hit theaters on November 17, 2028. The date lands the film on the weekend before Thanksgiving, a prime slot for a film meant to appeal to everyone.

This is the same TMNT reboot that was just announced, produced by Sonic franchise architect Neal H. Moritz. It was previously reported that Paramount is rebuilding the brand and moving away from darker concepts like the canceled R-rated Last Ronin film.

Paramount owns TMNT outright, and the franchise remains extremely valuable. Under the studio, the three prior feature films have grossed nearly $913 million worldwide. In 2023 alone, TMNT merchandise cleared over $1 billion in global retail for Paramount.

The animated sequel to 2023’s Mutant Mayhem, directed by Jeff Rowe and produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, is still set for September 17, 2027.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Paramount+ Release Announced

New Sonic Universe Movie Hits December 22, 2028

Just in time for Christmas 2028, Paramount will release a new Sonic universe movie on December 22, 2028.

The project comes from Moritz’s Original Film and the SEGA Sammy Group. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 opened last year with a strong $60.1 million domestic debut and went on to pull in $236.1 million domestically and $492.1 million worldwide. The Sonic trilogy has now earned $1.2 billion across the franchise.

Paramount+ also scored a hit with the Knuckles spinoff series, which racked up over 11 million global viewing hours in its first 28 days.
