Shades of Deadpool!
A 10-minute sizzle reel of the unreleased Kung Fury 2 has “leaked” online from the David Sandberg movie, first announced back in 2015 and filmed in 2019.
The new Kung Fury was meant to be a follow-up to the cult 2015 short that was set in 1985, featuring Kung Fury, the toughest martial artist cop in Miami, who goes back in time to kill the worst criminal of all time – Kung Fuhrer Hitler. However, Kung Fury 2 was never released.
The footage, watch below, shows Sandberg back as the titular character. Also featured includes Michael Fassbender as the world’s best FBI Agent, Colt Magnum, sporting a mullet. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the President. David Hasselhoff also provides the voice of Hoff 9000 in the film. They all battle “A. Hitler,” played by Jorma Taccone. X-Men’s Alexandra Shipp also plays Rey Porter.

David Sanderg confirms leak
Variety has confirmed the leak is legit. Sandberg even commented:
“This was an internal promo video that was never supposed to be seen by the public. I feel bad because it contains a bunch of plot points and temp VFX. I hope at least people can see the passion that we poured into the movie, the world deserves to see it as it was meant to be seen. This movie has been held hostage for the past 5 years but I promise to keep fighting for it and make sure this film gets the chance it truly deserves.”

What happened?
Production on Kung Fury 2 wrapped in late 2019 after filming in Bulgaria and Germany, but post-production halted in 2020 due to a legal dispute between the producers and Chinese backers Creasun.
That October, the filmmakers sued Creasun Entertainment USA, claiming the company failed to deliver a promised $10 million, which forced the project to shut down.
Creasun responded by calling the lawsuit baseless and arguing that it had the right to take control of the film. Variety reports that there has been little progress on the movie since.

Will Kung Fury 2 ever be released?
With a reported budget of $34 million and the footage below looking promising, it would be a shame if Kung Fury 2 never gets released.
As noted by Variety, the leak happens to line up with the start of the Cannes Film Festival, which was when Sandberg first revealed the short back in 2015.
Worth mentioning is that Ryan Reynolds leaked the Deadpool test footage, which led to the first Deadpool movie getting greenlit due to the overwhelming fan support. Recently saw Deadpool & Wolverine make over $1.3 billion.
Maybe history will repeat itself and Kung Fury 2 will see the light of day, which it deserves.
