A new casting addition to Spider-Man: Brand New Day was announced on Thursday with actress Liza Colón-Zayas joining the film.
She joins Tom Holland, who returns as Peter Parker and Spider-Man, Zendaya as MJ, and Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role. Jacob Batalon is also expected back as Ned.
The role Liza Colón-Zayas is playing in Spider-Man 4 is also being kept under wraps. She’s known for playing Tina Marrero on the hit show, The Bear, and she also played Detective Jessica Perez in the DC live-action Titans series.
Liza Colón-Zayas: The new Aunt May, possibly Miles Morales’ Mother
While the role is unknown, fans have thrown it out there that Liza Colón-Zayas could actually be playing the mother of Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
In the comics, Miles’ mother is Rio Morales, a native of Puerto Rico. Liza Colón-Zayas happens to be of Puerto Rican descent and was born in the Bronx in NYC.
One possibility for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is that since Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May was killed off in Spider-Man: No Way Home (Tomei is now starring in a movie with Rachel Zegler), and that everyone has forgotten Peter, whoever Liza Colón-Zayas is playing acts like a “mother figure” in her place for Holland’s Peter Parker.
Maybe it’s eventually revealed that Liza Colón-Zayas is playing the mother of Miles Morales, leading to a live-action Ultimate Spider-Man Miles Morales movie (the Spider-Verse animated movies will be done by then).
It’s also thought as a result of everyone forgetting Peter that Spider-Man: Brand New Day introduces a new cast of friends for Holland’s Parker, which is how Sadie Sink comes into play.
I’ve even seen it suggested by fans that Sadie Sink is from the multiverse and plays the daughter of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst’s characters from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. If that’s the case, I expect Sadie Sink to be a mutant and have mutant Spider-powers, who in the comics is May Parker. It actually fits with the previous rumor that Sadie Sink was playing Jean Grey, of course, a mutant member of the X-Men.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has a July 31, 2026 release date, directed by Shang-Chi‘s Destin Daniel Cretton.
Additional rumors offer Simu Liu will be appearing who is confirmed back as Shang-Chi in Avengers: Doomsday.
Tom Holland hasn’t officially been announced for Avengers: Doomsday; it has been said the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day run at the same time as Doomsday, which explains Spidey’s absence.
It seems likely that the movie and the Spider-Man: Brand New Day post-credit scene will lead directly into Avengers: Secret Wars.
