Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has explained what The Final Boss persona really means. After his appearance at WWE Elimination Chamber 2025 on Saturday night, he was questioned whether he is playing The Final Boss as a “babyface” (a good guy) or a “heel” (a bad guy). Johnson addressed this directly with the WWE audience (via YouTube):
“The Final Boss is a lot of things. He’s a heel, he’s a baby face, but also he’s one who doesn’t adhere to the typical professional wrestling tropes.”

Unlike traditional wrestling characters who stick to clear-cut roles, The Final Boss moves between both. Johnson elaborated:
“I like vacillating between a heel and a baby face. But also, I feel like it’s important to… say what I wanna say. But more importantly than that, I say what I feel.”
The Rock emphasized that this flexibility lets him engage with the crowd however he wants, whether it’s having fun or telling them off:
“If I feel like having fun with the crowd, I do it. If I feel like telling them to shut up, the Final Boss is gonna sing.
Johnson also referenced his moment with Cody Rhodes at Elimination Chamber, where he wiped Rhodes’ blood onto a title belt after Cena attacked Rhodes:
And I like that with the Final Boss, there are no constraints and there are no handcuffs, and we can go out and have the reaction that we had tonight to the Final Boss because people were waiting. And create an experience with Travis Scott and going out and, embrace me, Cody Rhodes, and then eventually putting his blood on this belt and beating him with it.

John Cena’s Shocking Heel Turn
The bigger surprise from Elimination Chamber was John Cena’s full-blown heel turn. Cena, long known for being the ultimate good guy in WWE, turned on Cody Rhodes and seemingly aligned himself with The Rock.
This moment came as a shock to fans, as Cena has spent nearly his entire career as a babyface. His last significant heel run was during his early WWE days. While Cena has teased turning heel in the past, this time, it was unmistakable and comes full circle.
With WrestleMania 41 on the horizon, Cena’s turn adds another layer to the WWE main event scene. Will he stand with The Rock against Cody Rhodes, or does he have his own plans?
