12-year-old Eve Ridley, known for her role in Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, has been cast as Ruthye Marye Knoll in DC Studios’ upcoming Supergirl movie, directed by Craig Gillespie.
The film adapts Tom King’s 2022 comic series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, illustrated by Bilquis Evely, with Ana Nogueira penning the screenplay.
In the storyline, Ruthye Knoll, a young alien warrior, embarks on a galactic journey with Supergirl to hunt down Krem of the Yellow Hills, the villain who killed her father.
Joining Ridley, Rust and Bone star Matthias Schoenaerts will portray Krem, while House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock was previously announced in the title role of Supergirl who will first appear in James Gunn’s Superman.
Produced by DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, with DC EVP Chantal Nong executive producing, Supergirl is among the first projects in DC’s new era getting released on June 26, 2026, following Gunn’s Creature Commandos series on Max in December and his anticipated Superman film starring David Corenswet, set for release on July 11, 2025.
Gunn recently confirmed Ruthye while appearing at the NYCC.
“Ana [Nogueira] and Craig [Gillespie], the writer and director, have been doing a fantastic job spearheading this. We start shooting in England in January. I just saw – I don’t know if I am supposed to say this but I’m going to say it anyway – I just saw the screen test for Ruthye, with Milly Alcock, you know who is playing Supergirl,” said Gunn.
He continued at the NYCC: “Anna came in and she pitched to me the story of Supergirl, and it was just one of the best pitches I’ve ever heard, and she immediately wrote it. She came in with the first draft that was great, and it’s just gotten better and better.”
Gunn added, “And then Craig has been incredibly easy to work with. I can’t wait for that one to come out. It’s very much based on Tom King’s comic, ‘Woman of Tomorrow.’” There are of course differences because it’s a three-act structure, so it’s a little bit different in the structure which goes through various stories but it has all those major characters, the major themes. Supergirl is a mess. It’s something I can’t wait for people to see. I think it is a completely different unique take on a superhero.”
