Phoebe Waller-Bridge Tomb Raider Eyeing Sophie Turner & Lucy Boynton

It is reported the Phoebe Waller-Bridge Tomb Raider series – if it happens – in development at Amazon MGM Studios is eyeing Sophie Turner and Lucy Boynton for the lead role of Lara Croft.

It’s said the two actresses will be testing for the role, and also on Amazon’s wishlist is Emma Corrin and Mackenzie Davis, though it’s reported they’re not believed to be testing.

Back in August saw Puck News shed doubt that the series is even going to happen. The site said at the time that many insiders are “placing bets on whether it will ever come to fruition.”

Apparently if they are screen testing for Lara Croft, the series is indeed coming to fruition.

Fans will recognize the 28-year-old Sophie Turner from Game of Thrones where she played Sansa Stark. Marvel fans will also recognize her from playing Jean Grey in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

30-year-old Lucy Boynton is known for Gypsy, The Politician, she played a Barbie in the Barbie movie, and she was featured in Bohemian Rhapsody.

Fans will also recognize Emma Corrin from the blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine where she played the villain, Cassandra Nova.

Mackenzie Davis is known for Terminator: Dark Fate, Station Eleven, and Halt and Catch Fire.

What is the Phoebe Waller-Bridge Tomb Raider series about?

The details for the Phoebe Waller-Bridge Tomb Raider series include that Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) has been tapped as writer and executive produce.

The series is supposed to be written by Megan McDonnell who is known for The MarvelsWandaVision, and Marvel’s upcoming Agatha series, with it also said McDonnell is serving as story editor and consulting producer.

Variety also previously reported on the hiring of McDonnell on Tomb Raider as a project that exemplifies “the nontraditional approach she likes to bring to boilerplate formats, be they sitcoms or superhero tentpoles.”

Phoebe Waller-Bridge also previously talked about discussing the look of Lara Croft in the writers room.

“She had an attitude. She was very deliberate in what she wanted to do. That all changed when they realized that they could market her to be a sex symbol.” Waller-Bridge said back in June.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge continued, “She’s a tomb raider, so she’s incredibly fit. She has to squeeze through tiny rock crevices all the time. It is a different experience squeezing through a small rock crevice when you have larger boobs than if you have smaller boobs.”
