Sony has released new character posters for Madame Web which are just the same as every other poster released except they’re in black-and-white and the eyes and parts of the costume are colored.
Yeah, how about that for a marketing budget?
“Different threads. Same web. Madame Web connects them all – exclusively in movie theaters February 14,” teases the social media description.
What are the box office estimates?
Madame Web is expected to be another massive bomb for Sony which follows Morbius also bombing back in 2022 which brought in only $167 million for Sony.
Box office estimates should be out within a week or so it will be interesting to see if it matches Morbius‘ $39 million opening weekend.
Update: The box office opening weekend estimates are $25 million to $35 million.
Girls will be another no-show
As it’s a girl power superhero movie, it will also be interesting to see how well it does compared to both The Marvels and Birds of Prey which also bombed big time. It’s known the girls, women and even families didn’t turn out for those flicks (they sure as heck did for Barbie).
The Marvels opened to $46 million but as only the MCU zombie fanboys went to see it, it suffered the worst drop of any superhero movie and only brought in $206 million on a budget of close to $300 million.
A similar bomb could be in the future for Madame Web, and no, you don’t need to have psychic superpowers in order to know that.
Birds of Prey only opened to $33 million and ended its run with $205 million but at least its budget was only $84.5 million, which is also the same for Madame Web, so at least it won’t be a big of a disaster as Kevin Feige’s joke of a Marvel movie.
Sony needs a clue
Speaking of jokes, Sony has to be careful because their Spider-Man spinoff films that haven’t been any good could tarnish the overall Spider-Man brand. If there ever is a plan for Sony to bring Spider-Man back home to its own Sony films universe, pairing Spider-Man with these trash characters is going to get laughed at and thrown out into the garbage faster than Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel.
Sony has Kraven in the works which also looks iffy, and Venom 2 wasn’t any good, so if Kraven is bad and bombs and Venom 3 is bad and bombs, it’s lights out for the Sony Spidey spinoff universe, if it isn’t dead already.
You’d think they would have learned from the Amazing Spider-Man movies. Similar to the MCU, when it comes down to it, the people in charge have absolutely no clue. It’s unbelievable.
