Two of the biggest names in comic book movies have been silent on X for nine months. On Tuesday, both broke that silence six minutes apart.
At 10:02 a.m. PT, Frank Miller posted for the first time since October 8 of last year, thanking Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder for Monday night’s New York stop of his book tour.
Six and a half minutes later, at 10:08 a.m. PT, Zack Snyder posted for the first time since September 28 of last year — promoting Saturday’s Los Angeles stop, where he sits down live on stage with Miller.
“Can’t wait to sit down with this absolute icon,” wrote Snyder, telling fans that if they love bold storytelling, they won’t want to miss it.
Snyder’s last post on the platform was the September 28 note announcing he was joining Instagram “for all things photographic,” after which he effectively went dark on X. That’s 289 days of silence for Snyder, 279 for Miller.
Why Now: Push The Wall Is Out Today
The trigger isn’t a mystery. Miller’s memoir Push the Wall: My Life, Writing, Drawing and the Art of Storytelling hit shelves Tuesday from S&S/Saga Press, and the tour promoting it is now underway. Two dormant accounts woke up on release day.
As CBN previously reported, the tour puts Miller on stage with a different heavyweight in each city:
- July 13 — New York City: The Great Hall at Cooper Union, with Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder
- July 15 — Austin: Lady Bird Johnson Auditorium, with Sin City co-director Robert Rodriguez
- July 18 — Los Angeles: Wilshire Ebell Theatre, with Zack Snyder
- July 30 — London: Royal Geographical Society
Miller is also a Special Guest at San Diego Comic-Con, July 22-26.
The LA event is presented by How To Academy, takes place Saturday, July 18 at 7 p.m. at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, and is followed by a limited signing with pre-signed copies available. Snyder is billed on the poster as the “300 director.” Tickets are at howtoacademy.com/frank.
Snyder Scores His To Justice League Music
Here’s where the two posts stop rhyming.
Miller’s tweet is book business — a thank-you to one collaborator, a nod to the next city. Snyder’s isn’t. Over on Instagram, his platform of choice these days, the director promoted the same event with a post set to “We Do This Together,” Tom Holkenborg’s cue from the Zack Snyder’s Justice League score.
Snyder knows exactly what he’s doing. This is the third straight post pulling from the same well: he marked the 4th of July with Henry Cavill’s Superman set to Springsteen, then teased “hope rises” with black suit Superman set to Holkenborg’s “That Terrible Strength” from the same Justice League score. Now a third Holkenborg cue, on the day he returns to a platform he abandoned nine months ago.
You don’t score a book event with your own Justice League music by accident.
The Timing Around It All
As I’ve reported via trusted insiders, the SnyderVerse is fully back in play as the De Luca-Abdy era takes shape at Warner Bros. following the Paramount merger, with Snyder described as “gung ho” about adapting The Dark Knight Returns and finishing his Justice League arc once the deal is done.
Line up the calendar. Paramount has been targeting July 15 to close the WBD acquisition. Snyder takes a stage next to the man who wrote The Dark Knight Returns on July 18. San Diego Comic-Con opens Preview Night on July 22, with Miller there as a Special Guest.
And Snyder picks this week — the week the merger closes — to come back to X and cue up Justice League music. Read the room.
