Perhaps we have found out why Man of Steel director Zack Snyder may have seemingly passed on the Justice League movie — possibly for a new Star Wars spinoff movie.
Vulture is reporting that Zack Snyder will be on a new Star Wars movie that is not part of the upcoming trilogy (Episodes VII, VIII & IX). Snyder previously said he wasn’t going to do Episode VII, but now it seems that didn’t rule out other Star Wars movies.
Update: Snyder’s reps state the director is not involved.
We previously heard that Disney wants to put out a Star Wars movie every two years or so, with spinoffs possibly in the works from the writer on Empire Strikes Back.
Vulture says Snyder’s new Star Wars will be based on the “Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 classic Seven Samurai, with the ronin and katana being replaced by the Force-wielding knights and their iconic lightsabers.”
The movie is said to be taking place after Episode VI, Return of the Jedi, with production set to begin after Star Wars Episode VII begins.
Seven Samurai is a George Lucas favorite that sees a bunch of farmers retain the services of seven samurai to fend of bandits that have been raiding their village.
Regarding the Justice League movie, we were told Snyder passed on it, but will be on as a producer/consultant.
