Three days before D23, a scooper on X is pumping the brakes.
Daniel Richtman posted Monday afternoon that Marvel is “having some issues with the X-Men casting” and that he is not sure the cast gets announced at D23, writing that it “all depends on whether they can lock everyone in on time.” The post has cleared 300,000 views.
Worth mentioning is that this is a “scooper” claim, and Marvel never actually announced a D23 reveal in the first place.
Richtman also said Marvel at Comic-Con would be pretty bland, but Feige nailed it with Black Panther and Ghost Rider announcements, along with the Avengers: Doomsday cast on stage, including Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, tickets going on sale, and the new trailer.
Richtman’s post came after claims that Charles Melton will no longer be playing Beast in the X-Men reboot. However, neither Marvel nor any of the trades had reported that Melton is actually playing Hank McCoy. Melton’s name was just another in a long list of X-Men casting rumors.
Deadline Signals More X-Men Casting Is Coming At D23
Two hours after Richtman’s post, Deadline published a meet-the-cast gallery treating the roster as settled so far: Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey, Kit Connor’s Cyclops, and Samara Weaving’s Emma Frost.
The outlet, which broke both castings (not scoopers), added that, with D23 coming soon, it expects to add more names.
The article also features Sadie Sink saying a great cast is coming together and predicts people will be really excited “when it’s all announced.”
D23 Will Settle The X-Men Casting Question
So for now, there is no official word that Marvel is pulling back from an X-Men reveal at D23, but again, at the same time, there has been no official X-Men announcement by Marvel said to be coming at D23.
What we have is one scooper saying the timing may be in trouble, while Deadline is openly preparing to add more names to a cast it already treats as taking shape.
With D23 just days away, we won’t have to wait long to see which version is right.
