X-Men ’97 Season 2 is now out on Disney+ with its first three episodes, and dare I say it, this might be the best thing Marvel has put out since Avengers: Endgame.
Yes, it is that good.
Season 2 is light years ahead of Season 1 in just about every way. The story is bigger. The stakes are higher. The animation is sharper. The action hits harder. The music is perfect. This feels like an epic, cosmic X-Men event that could have been its own MCU movie on the big screen.
Honestly, it should be.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 Fixes The Problems From Season 1
The biggest surprise is that X-Men ’97 Season 2 appears to have fixed the problems that dragged down Season 1.
The wokeness that hurt the first season is nowhere to be found in these first three episodes. Morph only appears briefly in two scenes, and there are no forced innuendos, no divisive nods, and no messaging shoved into the story.
It is almost as if Marvel read my Season 1 reviews, took every complaint seriously, and fixed everything. Thank you!
What we get instead is exactly what fans have been asking for: great story, great characters, huge action, and no agenda getting in the way.
The Story Feels HUGE
These first three episodes waste no time pulling you in. The story feels epic right out of the gate, with a cosmic scope that makes the season feel much bigger than a Disney+ animated series.
This is the kind of X-Men storytelling Marvel should be aiming for with the MCU. It has the drama. It has the spectacle. It has the character work. It has the comic book energy that makes you remember why these characters became icons in the first place.
There are also surprises, and here is one warning: do not skip the opening sequences. Marvel actually gives fans something worth watching there, too. It’s awesome.
The Action, Animation, And Music Are All Top Notch
The fight scenes are fantastic. The animation looks great. The music lands exactly how it should.
Everything about these first three episodes feels like Marvel finally remembered how to make fans excited.
This is the kind of show that makes you want to keep watching. It makes you want to go read the comic books. It makes you want to go buy the action figures and, yes, play with them.
It even makes me want to keep my Disney+ subscription.
Now that is a win.
This Is What Marvel Fans Have Wanted
X-Men ’97 Season 2 Episodes 1-3 are everything Marvel fans have wanted from this franchise and, frankly, from the larger MCU.
It is fun. It is exciting. It respects the characters. It feels like the comics. It does not talk down to the audience. It does not waste time preaching. It just gives fans a great X-Men story.
So stop reading this review and go watch X-Men ’97 Season 2.
Let’s hope this is a sign of things to come for the greater MCU, because this is what fans have wanted all along.
