Die-hard fans of X-Files, and there are many of us out there, have been waiting for news about “X-Files 3” for quite a while.
True, the last movie wasn’t that well-received, but does that mean we’ve seen the last of Mulder and Skully?
Well, it might mean the last for David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as the producer from X-Files, Frank Spotnitz, says he wouldn’t be surprised if Fox Studios rebooted the franchise.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all. I mean, I don’t think I would have anything to do with it but you know, for better or for worse, these things are titles of big corporations , like Star Trek belongs to Paramount and The X-Files belongs to Twentieth Century Fox and it’s a huge asset in their libraries so I can’t imagine they would let it sit languishing forever.
While he says he has no inside info about whether or not a reboot is in the works, he does state that if “X-Files 3” is green-lit that he knows what it would be about, even though there is still no script.
I mean I’ve known for many years what I would like the movie to be and I’ve been talking to Chris Carter about it for many years, but there is no script … It’s the climax of the alien colonization story that began the series.
Spotnitz also offers his support for an X-Files reboot as long as it’s done right.
Anything could happen. I just hope that if they do it, they do it well, that’s my only request.
Speaking of the movie, last we heard from Duchovny was that he wanted X-Files 3 to be a big budget film.
Michael Bay and James Wong also have a new show coming to A&E which sounds an awful lot like X-Files, though more supernatural oriented, dubbed “Occult.”
