WB Green Lights Spy Hunter Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:5637:]]After a long history of almost getting made, Warner Bros. has now green lit a Spy Hunter movie.

Spy Hunter, based on the classic video game, will have Gangster Squad and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer attached.

The game was created back in 1983 and was very popular at arcades for quite a long time. Spy Hunter featured players driving a sportscar with the capability of upgrading with help of the Weapons Van, including at times becoming a boat. Cool add-ons included smokescreen, oil slick, and a surface-to-air missile used to take out helicopters. I also recall the rather cool “sound track” and sound effects attached to it as well (see below).

A Spy Hunter movie has been in production for some time dating back ten years to 2003 with Universal signing Dwayne Johnson, and John Woo attached to direct. However, the screenwriters and directors would go through a series of changes with the movie falling through and Dwayne Johnson eventually dropping out.

Regarding the Spy Hunter video games, this past December saw Warner Bros. Interactive launch a new game for the PS-Vita, a reboot where users played again as the “Agent,” the driver of the high-tech G-6155 Interceptor supercar armed extensively with advanced weaponry and ready to take on a global terrorist organization set on world domination.

This video should bring back some good memories:
