Warner Bros. Pulls Gangster Squad Trailer Because of The Dark Knight Rises Shooting; Features Similar Footage

The tragedy that unfolded last night at a theater premiering The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado saw 12 dead with 38 wounded.

As a result, Warner Bros. has pulled the Gangster Squad trailer that was “loosely” playing in front of The Dark Knight Rises; meaning theaters were not mandated to play the Gangster Squad trailer, with, according to reports, about 30% of theaters participating.

A scene featured in the Gangster Squad trailer features a man with a machine gun shooting movie theater goers from behind the movie screen.

Suffice to say, that was more than enough for WB to pull the trailer.

Deadline reports that the Gangster Squad trailer was taken down when a Warner Bros. executive realized it was playing and to “replace it as soon as possible.”

The Aurora, Colorado shooting also took place 13 miles from the Columbine Massacre from April 1999.

Gangster Squad, a film about the LAPD’s fight to keep East Coast Mafia types out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s features Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Anthony Mackie.
