Warner Bros. has cancelled the red carpet premiere of The Dark Knight Rises set to take place tonight in France as a result of the Aurora, Colorado shooting.
In addition, media interviews have been cancelled as well with director Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Morgan Freeman.
Warner Bros. has not announced a new premiere date and Christopher Nolan has not responded in the French Press.
THR notes that the Aurora, Colorado shooting is currently France’s biggest news story as it is the headliner in the major French newspaper, Le Monde, as well as featured on the French public news channels.
Members of the media were already in attendance to cover the event and conduct interviews when word came down about the shooting. The decorations for the event at at the Gaumont theater on the Champs-Elysees have already been taken down. However, a public screening at the Grand Rex theater on Saturday night is still on.
The Dark Knight Rises opens in theaters July 20th, 2012 and is directed by Christopher Nolan starring Christian Bale as Batman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, Michael Cain as Alfred, Juno Temple and Josh Pence as a young Ra’s al Ghul.
