A new rumor floating online really isn’t making much sense if it is true as it states that Jim Carrey could possibly be playing the serial killer known as Cletus Kasaday, aka Carnage, in Amazing Spider-Man 2.
The reason it doesn’t seem likely is that the actor recently bowed out of doing any publicity for Kick-Ass 2 due to all the violence in the movie.
Seems Mr. Carrey finally saw the light of day six months following the tragic events that took place in December with the Sandy Hook school shooting, and now regrets having a role in the Kick-Ass sequel (though kept the hefty pay check).
The rumors began with mention that Jim Carrey was spotted on set during filming of Amazing Spider-Man 2 scenes featuring Ravencroft, the institute for the criminally insane.
In the Marvel comic books, Cletus Kasaday is a serial killer who killed his grandmother, burned down an orphanage, killed a young girl in front of a bus, etc. He shared a cell with Eddie Brock, and when the Venom symbiote returned it spawned an offspring which bonded with Kasaday becoming Carnage.
So we are supposed to believe that Jim Carrey will go from “not being a fan” of Colonel Stars in Kick-Ass 2 to playing a serial killer named Carnage in Amazing Spider-Man 2?
There could be one possibility, and that would be if Carrey’s scenes were shot before his perceived epiphany.
If that’s the case, then we shouldn’t be holding out for Carnage in any of the upcoming sequels.
