[[wysiwyg_imageupload:10181:]]A couple days ago, Vin Diesel posted an image of Groot, the Monarch of Planet X and member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, on his Facebook page, but was quick to take it down.
As the actor had previously voiced The Iron Giant, fans immediately speculated that Vin Diesel will be voicing Groot for James Gunn, which actually doesn’t seem such a bad fit.
The LA Times happened to catch up with Vin Diesel and asked about Groot. While Diesel didn’t specifically confirm that he is voicing Groot, it all but seems guaranteed he is voicing someone or something.
“I’m an actor,” Vin Diesel responded when asked ‘why Groot.’ “I can do whatever the [expletive] I want. As an actor, not everything has to be the most obvious choice. And sometimes, the best thing you can do — as far as Steven Spielberg and his advice — is to defy expectations. So if everybody thinks you’re going to go for this one thing and you flip it entirely and go for the strangest Marvel character, it’s interesting. And when something is interesting, it’s inspiring.”
Vin Diesel has previously posted images of the Vision and a Marvel Comics Avengers cover, regarding Groot he says he was being a bit secretive.
[[wysiwyg_imageupload:10182:]]”I get inspired by things. So if somebody sends me a book of conceptual art that’s the best character design work I’ve ever seen — I’m not kidding, I see that and I want to be a little cryptic and I want to say something positive,” he said. “Even if it’s as cryptic as an old, dated image of a character.”
Vin Diesel describing the Groot image as being cryptic could be that in itself; there could be a chance he is actually voicing Rocket Raccoon, who like Groot, has yet to be cast, and is best buds with Rocket.
Regardless which character Vin Diesel is voicing, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said an announcement wouldn’t be coming soon.
That actually fits with Diesel voicing a character as he would only need a few days towards the end of production to do the voice overs.
And Diesel hints that’s why it works best for him.
“That’s the thing — I’m so busy. The audience wanted Vin and Marvel, Vin and Marvel. But I’m too busy to do a six-month role. So what Marvel came up with was really interesting. … I am watching a social wave influence and in some ways guide their thinking,” he offered.
Speaking of Rocket Raccoon; the master tactician and right hand to Star-Lord is considered to speak with an English Accent, as was featured in the Marvel Vs. Capcom video game.
So check out Vin Diesel with an English Accent. Rocket Raccoon?
