Universal Green Lights “Dracula Year Zero” With Luke Evans

Universal is returning to their roots, and that’s monster movies, as the studios has green lit Dracula Year Zero with Luke Evans to star as the famous vampire.

In what is being described as an origin tale, Dracula Year Zero will see Luke Evans play a young prince who puts his soul on the line when his young wife and child get threatened by a bloodthirsty sultan, with Evans becoming the first vampire.

THR has it that Universal hopes Dracula Year Zero will set the tone for the modern age with a historical-oriented origin story.

Most likely if this is a success, we’ll see modern day origin stories of the other Universal monsters, which includes Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Mummy and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

David Goyer wrote a script for the Invisible Man movie, but recently said it doesn‘t seem to be moving forward.

In 2004, Universal was also behind Van Helsing, which starred Hugh Jackman.

Michael De Luca is on a producer.

Luke Evans recently starred with Henry Cavill in Immortals, was featured in The Raven and Clash of the Titans, and as roles in the upcoming movies, Fast and Furious 6 and The Hobbit.
