Caity Lotz Talks Canary In Arrow/Flash Spinoff; Confirms Firestorm

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19557:]]

In a surprise move, Caity Lotz will be featured in the planned superhero team spinoff of The Flash and Arrow.

Lotz’s fan-favorite character, Sara Lance (aka Canary), was killed off during Season 3 of Arrow, which became a major plot point.

With the announcement that Lotz will now be featured on the new superhero team that is set in the same universe in which she was seemingly killed off, speculation is running wild.

The original report made mention that Lotz may either somehow return as Canary or even play a new superhero all-together.

As fans of Arrow (and Batman) know, the Lazarus Pit can heal the sick and ressurect the dead; so there would be an out for Canary.

While it’s also possible Canary may have faked her yet death again, Lotz recently attended Wizard World Chicago and was asked about the spinoff.

“That’s a good question,” Lotz responded when asked if her character would even be seen again. “So, yeah. Sara Lance definintely died in episode 1 of Season 3.

“Has anybody heard about the spinoff?” Lotz asked the audience. “So there is a new show in development, and I am so excited to finally be able to talk about this. The Atom, Firestorm, my character, and so I guess that is a big thing that is going on. Everyone keeps asking me on the internet; they’re like, ‘Well, you’re dead. How are you going to be on the new show? Is it just going to be flashbacks or are you playing a whole new character? Are you Sara Lance?’

“I would love to tell you” Lotz offered. “But I think they might kill me. How many times have I died already? Sara Lance has died, I think three times. So you never know.”

Lotz does note “my character” which may have been a slip, or she’s just possibly referring to herself.

Lotz also confirms Firestorm, which would mean Robbie Amell is a part of the spinoff (previous details just made mention of Victor Garber playing Dr. Stein).

Brandon Routh is confirmed as Atom, and Wentworth Miller will be playing Captain Cold, in addition to three new DC heroes being a part of the team.

The untitled superhero team series looks to debut next Fall or possibly next mid-season.

Check out more with Caity Lotz from Wizard World Chicago in the following video.

Arrow/Flash Spinoff Casting Call Reveals 3 New DC Heroes

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19556:]]

A spinoff from Arrow and The Flash is currently in development, which will see a team of superheroes formed from new and existing characters.

Brandon Routh is set to play Atom; Victor Garber will play Dr. Stein; Wentworth Miller will play Captain Cold, and Kaity Lotz will also have a role (whether it’s her Arrow Canary role is unknown).

It’s also been said the Arrow/Flash superhero team spinoff will feature three DC Comics heroes who have never been on TV before, and now TV Line may have a description of the characters.

“THE TRAVELER” | Described as a “Han Solo-esque rogue who gets by with his charm, this hero hails from the future, and has journeyed back in time on a secret mission. His razor-sharp wit hides the pain of a man who has lived through serious conflict. He also harbors many secrets, always leaving both his teammates and the audience unsure of his true allegiances.

“FEMALE WARRIOR” | This twentysomething Latina is pretty but unassuming, book smart and socially awkward by day. But by night, when she hears the cry of battle, her fury is ignited and she becomes a fierce warrior — so much so, that sometimes she can become a threat to others.

“MYSTERY HERO” | An African-American male in his twenties will fill the role of a regular, street smart guy who unexpectedly gains powers, and then, as part of the team, regularly quips about the insanity of the situations.

As noted, “The Traveler” could possibly be Booster Gold or Rip Hunter.

“Female Warrior” may be reference to the female Wildcat (or maybe even an Amazon).

The “Mystery Hero” could be Static or Black Lightning.

The Arrow/Flash spinoff has also been said to be adding other characters from the shows (probably Robbie Amell, the other half of Firestorm).

Arrow creators, Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim, are putting the series together, which is expected to debut next season/mid-season.

Luke Cage Keeping Under The Radar In Netflix Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19553:]]

One of the most anticipated characters to debut on the Marvel Netflix shows is Luke Cage, who will first be appearing in Jessica Jones before the standalone series.

Halo: Nightfall‘s Mike Colter is playing Luke Cage, who offers up some tidbits while talking with the UK’s The List.

Marvel actually gives you a special training class in how not to say too much in interviews [laughs]. We’re in the middle of shooting AKA Jessica Jones and Luke Cage is a very interesting character who just happens to have super strength and unbreakable skin. He’s a neighborhood hero, very much linked to New York and Jessica Jones. It’s all part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but Luke Cage is a darker, grittier, more tangible character than Iron Man or Thor. He likes to keep things close to his chest, operate on the hush-hush. He has these abilities but he’s not sure how and when to use them. He’s a very nuanced character.

Colter also previously said Luke Cage is geared more toward adults, which will be a differen take than the MCU.

The Jessica Jones series is set to debut later this year starring Krysten Ritter as the titular character, David Tennant as Kilgrave, Rachael Taylor as Trish and Carrie-Anne Moss in an unknown role

Jessica Jones Synopsis:

After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

Stephen Amell Congratulates Supergirl & Recollects First Arrow Image

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19544:]]

Today saw the big reveal for the new CBS Supergirl costume, played by Melissa Benoist.

Stephen Amell took to his Facebook page to congratulate the new look.

Amell also recollected his experience with the Arrow costume and first official image.

The producers of The Flash and Arrow are behind Supergirl, so it’s looking likely that a crossover will eventually happen.

Here’s what Amell had to say:

Just saw the photo of Melissa Benoist as Supergirl on Twitter. Wow. Most importantly – the costume looks awesome. Congratulations to everyone involved. Now… let me take you back and tell you a story.

When Arrow began filming – late winter, 2012 – the very first thing I did after being cast was head for a costume fitting. There was concept art, but the producers had – smartly – left the basics open to interpretation based on who they put in the role.

Several fittings and one defiant, “I’m not wearing army boots, it forces me to run like a business person trying to catch a bus” rant later, we were ready for the exact moment that the Supergirl peeps went through today: The unveiling. And why was this important? Because the year prior a superhero costume picture had leaked and there was a perception – you can debate how accurate it was – that this leak had gotten the production off on the wrong foot.

As a result, any time I was in the suit, I had to wear an overcoat and – I swear to god – a fedora, for fear that paparazzi were lurking about trying to steal our thunder.

Well… the photos were taken and the choice was made. Ironically, the photo we ended up using (me, with my head down in profile) was a shot our director David Nutter insisted on at the last minute just from watching me shift into that stance to stay comfortable.

The photo is examined, approved… given a little panache from the DC team and set for release. I remember everyone being really happy with it and wanting to show it off to people working on the pilot. Which led to one of our producers showing it to Katie Cassidy… She immediately pointed out a glaring problem. The angle of the photo and the placement of my bow made it appear as though I was maybe a little TOO excited about wearing the Arrow suit. She was right. It definitely looked like I had an erection.

Luckily for us… changes were made and the photo erupted online (sorry…) with a fantastic approval rating. We were well on our way.

And that’s the story of why first photos in the costume are important / how we ALMOST became the show about the hooded vigilante with a boner.

The costume for Supergirl was designed by three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, who also designed the costumes for The Flash and Arrow and whose motion picture credits include Academy Awards for her work on Alice in Wonderland, Memoirs of a Geisha and Chicago, as well as eight additional Oscar nominations for films such as Into the Woods, Snow White and the Huntsman, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Sleepy Hollow, among others.

Colleen Atwood said, “In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today.”

According to the Netflix queue, the shows will be available until March 30th.

This includes the DC shows: Justice League Unlimited, Justice League (2001), Young Justice, Batman Beyond, Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Batman: The Brave and The Bold.

It’s unknown if the contract simply expires on that date and just needs to be renewed, or if WB is pulling the plug.

It’s possible WB could be coming up with their own digital streaming service, such as they did with HBO Go, which launches this Spring for $15 a month.

Maybe the WB/CN shows will now be found on HBO Go?

Cosmic Book News questioned WB about it and is currently waiting a response back. We’ll update with more when it’s available.

Damien Darhk Rumored For Arrow Season 4 Villain

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19487:]]

Arrow may have a new villain by the end of the Season 3 finale.

TV Line is reporting the Arrow Season 3 finale will introduce a “major, formidable, fierce new foe” for Oliver Queen.

It’s said the new villain’s “reign of terror” will continue into Season 4.

According to the report, the mystery character is being referred to as “Damian Dark.”

Note: Some outlets have mistakenly speculated it to be the son of Bruce Wayne, Damien Wayne, but I doubt a ten year old is going to be an opponent on the show for Arrow.

There is a character in the DC Comics with the name Damian Darkh, who is a 20-ish underworld figure who has access to advanced technology and often scraps with the Teen Titans.

Here is the description of the character from wiki:

Baby-faced Damien Darhk was a mysterious, elusive, and dangerous figure. He claimed to be a major player in America’s underworld and certainly had some connection to the criminal organization H.I.V.E. He also seemed to have had access to unique high-tech equipment that has never been used by any known organization. Darhk was considered to be a major criminal by the C.I.A. and F.B.I.; however, their investigations revealed no hard evidence against him. He was a wi-fi fiend, staying in touch with associates by the very latest forms of mass communication. What particularly baffled investigators was his apparent youth; Damien seemed to be in his early twenties yet was already well-established and well-connected.

Marc Guggenheim Talks Vixen Animated Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18704:]]

A couple of months ago saw WB announce the new Vixen animated series, which is set in the same universe as Arrow and The Flash.

Now EP Marc Guggenheim sheds some light on the project.

“We’re going to do basically an animated spinoff,” Guggenheim told SciFiNow. “It’s a six-part origin story, but characters from The Flash and Arrow are prominently involved. It’s in the continuity and the world.”

Guggenheim also says Grant Gustin of The Flash and Stephen Amell of Arrow may appear.

“The response has been very favorable,” Guggenheim offered. “I can’t speak for them, but all signs are good.”

It’s also possible that some time down the line Vixen could turn in to a live-action show, which Guggenheim says he is open to.

“If the character resonates with people, that would be wonderful,” said Guggenheim. “I would love to be in a position where CW said to us, ‘Hey, we want a Vixen live-action show.’ We’ll have to see how things play out.”

Vixen is set to debut on the CW’s digital offshoot propery, Seed, in the Fall.

Luke Cage Series Is Geared Toward Adults Says Mike Colter

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19482:]]

While speaking about the Halo series, Mike Colter lets it be known the new Luke Cage Marvel Netflix series is being aimed at adults.

“It’s geared towards an adult audience, which is something that will be different from the Marvel Cinematic Universe that you’ve seen before on the big screen,” Mike Colter told IGN.

Colter, who plays Locke in the Halo: Nightfall series, continues with mention how excited he is to play the role.

“I’m excited about playing the character because I’ve read the comic books,” Colter said. “They’re very detailed, gritty; the world they’ve written in the comic books is very clear. Marvel does a fantastic job about bringing human stories – because you’re telling big stories with a heart at the center of it – and that’s what connects all of the characters to our audience members. Audience members have to feel connected with these characters, to make them relate to the character’s situations and that’s what you see with all of the Marvel characters.”

Colter will first be appearing in the Jessica Jones series before Luke Cage launches, and Colter says he is happy with what he sees.

“What I’m most excited about is touching on what makes him tick. It feels good to get a character that has such a story, background, and history,” Colter offered. “And when I look at the scripts, I’m really pleased with it because it’s a slow-burn; there’s nothing happening really fast that gets ahead of itself. I’m really with where they’re taking it and how they’re developing the characters, because it’s really cool and it’s geared towards an adult audience, which is something that will be different from the Marvel Cinematic Universe you’ve seen before on the big screen.”

Colter also offers the following about the series approach, which will be different than some of the Marvel movies.

“We have a more gritty, focused story on our heroes and characters that live in New York City, but it’s geared towards a more adult audience and I think that’s the thing about the series that will be different.”

Daredevil premiers on April 10th which launches the Marvel Netflix shows.
