Back in January, a rumor hit the net suggesting that Chris Evans is going to be replaced as Captain America.

It was stated Captain America /Chris Evans could be killed off in Captain America 2 or The Avengers 2.

While the rumor had the reason for Cap being killed off because of reportedly Chris Evans being hard to get along with, it turns out the rumor may not have been all that far off.

In a recent interview with Glamour magazine, Chris Evans states he wants to take a break from acting when his current contract with Marvel Studios has run its course.

“I think when I’m done with this Marvel contract, I’ll take a little break from acting,” Evans is quoted as telling Glamour by TV3.IE.

It’s noted that Chris Evans had initial doubts about the role, but says he is glad he ended up playing Captain America.

“If I hadn’t done it, I’d be really kicking myself,” he said. “At the time, it was a daunting task for a number of reasons, but in hindsight it was the right move.”

It’s been reported that Chris Evans is signed on for six Captain America appearances.

Including Captain America 2, so far Evans will have appeared as Captain America four times: Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers and Thor 2 (Loki), but we are not sure if the latter counts. Chris Evans is also confirmed for The Avengers 2, which would make the fifth appearance (or fourth if Thor 2 isn’t a part of the deal).

With Evans potentially leaving, it’s possible Marvel could go the James Bond route with Captain America, as similar remarks surrounding the departure of Robert Downey Jr. from the Iron Man role have drawn comparison to OO7 in that the role wouldn’t be rebooted, just replaced and moved forward.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier has an April 4th release, with The Avengers: Age of Ultron hitting May 1, 2015.
