When news first surfaced about a Transformers 4 movie it was said that the movie was going to be a complete reboot.

However, director Michael Bay has since come out and said that’s not the case, that it will still fit in with the previous film, Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Now, Michael Bay gives some more details about the timing of the movie compared to the last with mention that it takes place four years after, in addition that snoopers won’t be able to get an early peek at the movie.

Speaking with TMZ, Bay said;

The movie is going to continue four years from the attack on Chicago which was in the last movie. So it’s going still have the same lineage but going in a full, new, different direction and it actually feels really natural how it is going in that direction. There’s no way you are going to find out what the story is, because you are going to have to dig through my trash, but I shed my trash and we have high-level encryption on our computers, so good luck to you.

Recent Transformers 4 news also includes the announcement that Mark Wahlberg will be starring, in addition to the reveal of a new logo.

Regarding Wahlberg, Michael Bay had the following to say:

He’s a fun guy. I just finished working with him on Pain and Gain, a twisted crime story. We finished in Miami.

It’s just something that we thought about a bit, you saw the whole internet kinda rumored that he was on, that wasn’t really true, and we are in the inception part of the story, and just talking with Steven Spielberg, this is a great way to really take this franchise in a different direction. We are doing a lot of things that are really going to make it fresh and feel new.

He’s an actor that’s accomplished, Academy Award nominee, I love working with him, he’s got a great sense of comedy, and he’s a guy who can handle action and he’s never had a huge franchise. So this is something that really appealed to him.

Michael Bay also let loose that Transformers 4 will have a July 4, 2014 release, not the previously announced June 27th date.

Bay was asked about the release date and he said:

Yeah, July 4th, 2014.

TMZ then remarked that he already knows the release date, with Bay responding:

Yeah, Come on.
