Top 10 Comic Books For September 2013: DC On Top With Villains Month

Diamond has released their early estimates for comic books sales for the month of September where DC Comics comes out overwhelmingly on top with their Villains Month 3D and 2D issues.

DC had over 40% of the market share (40.39%) to Marvel’s 28.49%.

Likewise, DC came out on top for the unit share with 45.17% to Marvel’s 29.83%.

Bear in mind, DC basically sold double the amount of the same titles as both the 3D and 2D versions are counted separetely in the total numbers, I believe.

We see this as evident by the fact not many of the DC Villains Month covers come in the top 10, with Marvel still holding five spots. There is also the added fact that DC Comics did in fact ship almost twice the amount as Marvel for the month (129 vs 67).

Not sure why, but for some reason DC limited the amount of 3D books retailers were able to order. I think it was based on past orders of certain titles. Why DC went that route is anybody’s guess as it seems a lot of retailers and fans wanted more of the 3D copies. 

Good news for the month of September is that comic books sales were up 32% compared to August, with graphic novel sales up 12% for the month. Compared to 2012, comic book sales are up 12.5% for the year, as well.

Checking out the top ten list we see that Forever Evil and Batman are the titles listed for DC while Marvel has Infinity, Avengers, and Battle of the Atom. Infinity has been consistently good and one of Marvel’s better done events in the last dozen years.
