Thor 2 (2013): Game Of Thrones’ Brian Kirk In Talks To Direct

picWith director Kenneth Branagh’s departure, Brian Kirk is presently at the top of the list to helm Thor 2.

Kirk has previously worked on episodes of Game Of ThronesBoardwalk Empire, Dexter and Luther.

Thor 2, which would come after The Avengers, would mark Kirk’s directorial debut on a large production Hollywood movie.

“Kirk rose to the top of the list of directors vying for the job after he showed his abilities to juggle large ensembles of thesps and complex storylines in his TV projects, while also grounding the fantasy genre via his work on ‘Thrones,'” states Variety.

Don Payne, co-writer on the first, is coming back to pen the sequel to Thor, which has brought in $447 million worldwide.

According to Variety, if a deal can not be reached with Kirk other names are being looked at.

Variety also states the following names were considered:

Drew Goddard (“Cabin in the Woods”), James McTeigue (“Ninja Assassin”), Noam Murro (“300: Battle of Artemesia”) and Breck Eisner (“The Crazies”).

Thor 2 hammers into theaters July 26th, 2013.

The Avengers assembles May 4th, 2012 and is directed by Joss Whedon, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.
