The Odyssey Trailer Blows Past 600K Dislikes — A Day After First Reactions Called It A Triumph

The Odyssey Trailer Blows Past 600K Dislikes — A Day After First Reactions Called It A Triumph

Update — July 10: The pile-on didn’t stop at 600K — the dislikes have now reached 700,000 with Nolan responding for the first time, brushing it off with “Comes with the territory.” Robert Pattinson is now comparing the film to Twilight.

The campaign against Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey was suppose

d to run out of gas the moment the movie turned out to be good. Instead, it found another gear.

As of this writing, the Official Countdown Trailer on Universal Pictures’ YouTube channel sits at 611,000 dislikes against just 68,000 likes, a 9-to-1 blowout that hands the thumbs-down 90% of the vote.

The trailer has racked up 5.7 million views, meaning it’s collecting more than one dislike for every ten views, along with over 31,000 comments.

And six days after it dropped, it’s still sitting at #3 on YouTube’s Trending chart for movies, with the algorithm happily rewarding the pile-on with even more reach.

The math on the climb is brutal.

The count passed 500,000 on the day of Monday’s world premiere in London and stood at 566,000 by the time the first reactions were calling the film a triumph Monday evening.

Since then, it has tacked on another 45,000, well over 100,000 new dislikes in the roughly 24 hours surrounding the premiere, and an average of more than 100,000 per day since the trailer went live.

The countdown trailer was already Nolan’s most disliked trailer ever before it crossed the latest milestone.

The Dislike Campaign Is Feeding Itself

If the dislike wave were about quality, Monday night’s glowing reactions should have been the ceiling. Instead, the number jumped another 45K overnight.

That’s because the campaign stopped being about the movie a long time ago, if it ever was.

It’s about Lupita Nyong’o’s comments on Homer and women reigniting the adaptation debate, Elon Musk branding Nolan “a worm” hours before the premiere, and a discourse machine that now feeds on itself.

Universal’s decision to lock replies on X back when the count crossed 450,000 only confirmed the studio saw the wave building, and chose to duck rather than engage, which on the internet of 2026 is pure gasoline.

Meanwhile, Universal’s own YouTube description still cheerfully bills the film as a “mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology” — directly above a like bar that’s 90% red.

And Nolan has now played the Heath Ledger Dark Knight card.

Ten Days Out, One Number Left

The Odyssey opens July 17, ten days from now.

The only question that matters is whether 611,000 angry thumbs translate into empty seats, or whether this goes down as the loudest minority in movie marketing history.

The latest Quorum tracking numbers already offer an early read on where awareness and interest actually stand with ticket buyers.

Dislikes are free. Tickets aren’t. In ten days, we find out which number Hollywood remembers. For more, head on over to everything we know about The Odyssey.
