Live-Action Tangled Release Date Revealed At D23 As Kathryn Hahn Steals The Show

UPDATE 8/16: Disney has confirmed Outlander star Caitríona Balfe as Queen Arianna, Rapunzel’s long-lost mother, per Deadline, weeks after set videos of the reunion scene gave it away. Deadline’s D23 takeaway also notes March 31, 2028 currently has Amazon MGM’s The Chosen movie as counter-programming, with Tangled landing a week ahead of Sony’s The Beatles film on April 7. Original article follows.

Mother Gothel crashed D23. Kathryn Hahn hit the stage Friday night to hype Disney’s live-action Tangled, which is now officially dated for March 31, 2028.

The event also showed off a first look at Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider.

Per Brandon Davis, Hahn drew the biggest pop of the night from the Anaheim crowd.

Disney leaned all the way into the moment, filling the arena with floating lanterns in a nod to the movie’s signature scene.

The Corona Cast Takes Shape

Hahn’s casting as Gothel was confirmed back in March, after Scarlett Johansson first circled the role and exited over scheduling conflicts that included The Batman Part II, per Deadline.

Teagan Croft stars as Rapunzel opposite Milo Manheim’s Flynn Rider, with Diego Luna playing a new character created for the film.

The Greatest Showman and Better Man director Michael Gracey helms from a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, and cameras have been rolling in Spain for weeks, with set photos of Hahn’s Gothel and Croft’s Rapunzel already making the rounds.

Back From The Dead

This is a movie Disney flat out paused in April 2025 in the wake of the Snow White disaster, before quietly reviving it last October.

The math is easy to follow. The 2010 original grossed $592 million worldwide, and Lilo & Stitch just proved the right remake still prints money by clearing $1 billion last year.

Tangled also slots into a loaded Disney 2028, arriving three weeks after Pixar’s Ghost Market, with Lilo & Stitch 2 in May and Incredibles 3 in June right behind it.

The live-action Tangled hits theaters March 31, 2028.
