Info:

THE SHOOT OF FINNISH SUPERHERO FILM RENDEL CONTINUES

The final shooting period for Rendel started on Wednesday night in Mikkeli, the home town of the Finnish superhero. Aerial footage of the city’s skyline was shot for various parts of the film. On Saturday the film crew will be shooting in snowy Puolanka at one of the highest waterfalls in Finland, Hepoköngäs. The next two weeks of the shoot will continue with the most action-packed scenes in Kajaani. These scenes will include international stars.

The new cast members for the film are Johnny Vivash from the United Kingdom, Canadian-Finnish professional wrestler Michael ‘StarBuck’ Majalahti, and Michael Hall from the United States.

Johnny Vivash will be playing Radek and bring extra power to the previously announced international assassin squad. Finding the most suitable face and appearance took some time but the perfect match was found. The director of Rendel, Jesse Haaja is excited about directing Vivash next week.

“Finding the perfect actor to play Radek was not an easy task,” Haaha said. “The role is very important in the storyline and it requires a certain looks from the actor. Johnny had something that really convinced me.”

Vivash will be arriving in Finland next week for five days of shooting.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the cast as of Rendel, this exquisite dark, revenge thriller,” Vivash said. “I am hugely looking forward to shooting in Finland and working with this brilliant cast and crew.”

The most internationally renowned Finnish wrestler Michael ‘StarBuck’ Majalahti will be bringing impressive energy to the film playing Jimmy. He was also part of the demo shoot for Rendel in 2014. StarBuck has won the European, Finnish, and Italian championships in wrestling in his wrestling career that has lasted more than 20 years. At the moment he is one of the top wrestlers of all-around classic American style in Europe. He also stars in a Finnish documentary film Spandex Sapiens (2015) directed by Oskari Pastila.

The director Haaja was hoping to get Majalahti to the feature length film after seeing him acting and performing stunts in the demo.

“Michael has basically been involved in the production from the beginning. It is an honour to get this wrestling legend to star in the film and the role of Jimmy is perfect for him,” Haaja said.

StarBuck is thankful for the bad guy’s role offered by the director.

“I am stoked to be a part of Finland’s first-ever superhero movie! I’ve been a heel in pro wrestling all across the world over the past 22 years, and I know how to pull that role off in spades. Let the punishment begin!” Majalahti offered.

Rendel will be played by Kris Gummerus. Other cast includes Bianca Bradey, Sheila Shah, Michael Hall, Rami Rusinen, Renne Korppila, Alina Tomnikov, Aake Kalliala and Matti Onnismaa. The film will be shot about 50 days in total and finish in 2016.

Rendel is based on the comic character created by Finnish director and producer Jesse Haaja. In the movie the masked vigilante Rendel seeks revenge and fights against the notorious VALA criminal organization. Rendel’s journey from a social media hit into a full grown superhero movie has already gained tens of thousands of followers and Rendel enthusiasts from all around the world.

Rendel is produced by Haaja & Arwo Design, Black Lion Pictures and Frozen Flame Pictures.

To be honest, almost everything has changed since first pre-production,” Jesse Haaja, the director and creator of Rendel, said in a statement. “The only thing that remains untouched is the original story: Rendel will still be a dark tale of a man blinded by vengeance.”

Info:

Check out a batch of new images for the first Scandinavian superhero movie, Rendel, as filming has now reached the halfway point.

After 3 weeks of intense filming, Jesse Haaja, the director and creator of Rendel, is more than happy with the material.

“At this point of the production, the biggest positive thing is the high visual quality we’ve been able to achieve,” says Haaja.

Before filming started, the movie received a remarkable boost in its production budget by the entry of Black Lion Pictures and Frozen Flame Pictures. As a result, basically the whole project was rebooted.

“Thanks to the increased budget we’re now able to do things we couldn’t include in our original plans,” Haaja said. “To be honest, almost everything has changed. The only thing that remains untouched is the original story: Rendel will still be a dark tale of a man blinded by revenge. This is also the reason why we’ve removed the previously released teaser material from the web. The old material simply does not represent the quality of the upcoming movie anymore. Things are going to look so much better.”

We can expect to see new the Rendel material at the beginning of 2016.

“Rendel” has a 2016 release date.

The filmmakers recently attended the Cannes Film Festival and also launched a crowd-sourcing campaign at IndieGoGo where fans can help fund the movie to get a Rendel action figure, mask, an appearance in the film and lots more.

“Since we are already in, we want to be fully in. This means we’ll be doing everything we can to get people involved and make this film look and feel like something very special,” director Jesse Haaja said.

Campaign manager Emma Iives added: “With this money we will make the film look better and more intensive. Crowdfunding brakes down the traditional production model which matches perfectly with a rebel like Rendel. We are now giving power directly to the viewers – they are the reason we are making the film in the first place.”
