Synopsis:

Dr. Will Caster is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn and friend Max, both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can… but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power—to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.

Johnny Depp’s Transcendence Movie Plot Details Surface

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3678:]]Christopher Nolan’s Inception cinematographer, Wally Pfister, is directing a new big budget science fiction movie, Transcendence, which stars Johnny Depp.

Details on the movie are scarce with Transcendence being described as “in the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Inception.”

Christopher Nolan and wife Emma Thomas are on board as producers, and it’s even been said that Christian Bale may play a role.

A previous description for the movie revealed that Johnny Depp’s character some how gets sucked into an evil computer that developed cognitive awareness.

Now some further details for Transcendence have made their way on to the web via TheWrap who states that Transcendence is currently being shopped around for international distribution.

The story follows three scientists, attempting work on stem cell and advanced computer technology, which will change the fundamentals of human life. Tension comes into play when they are met by protest and resistance. The film is due to start shooting in February 2013.

Christian Bale Up For A Role In Pfister’s “Transcendence”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3716:]]

Transcendence, the new sci-fi movie from Wally Pfister, may see Christian Bale as the lead actor.

Bale’s name is another being thrown around, in addition to Johnny Depp who we just learned about yesterday.

Not much is known about Transcendence, but the movie is being described as “in the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Inception.”

Speaking of Inception, Wally Pfister was Christopher Nolan’s cinematographer on that movie, with Nolan now executive producing Transcendence, so Bale’s inclusion wouldn’t be that much of a stretch.

Transcendence begins filming this Winter.

Christopher Nolan To Executive Produce Wally Pfister’s Transcendence; Starring Johnny Depp

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3678:]]

Remember the cinematographer that came out and said that The Avengers movie was appalling?

Well, that was the same DP on Inception, Wally Pfister, who will see his directorial debut with the sci-fi movie Transcendence.

Currently, Johnny Depp is in talks to star in the movie, with Inception and The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan on as executive producer along with wife, Emma Thomas.

PrometheusNoomi Rapace is also in talks to play the female lead with either James McAvoy or Tobey Maguire in talks for another male leading role. Christopher Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) is also said to be offered a role.

The plot is said to center on a man (Johnny Depp) who gets sucked into a computer that develops some kind of evil awareness, described as “the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Inception.”

I’m thrilled and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Johnny,” Pfister told THR. “He is a creative and intelligent artist whom I feel will bring great depth to the character and the overall narrative.”

Transcendence looks to begin filming next year from Warner Bros.

Joss Whedon Responds To “Avengers Appalling” Dig – With Class

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3591:]]

The Dark Knight Rises cinematographer Wally Pfister struck a low blow toward Joss Whedon’s The Avengers movie when he blatantly when out of his way – when not even asked – to state that the movie was “appalling.”

The original interview in which Pfister made the statement has since been edited to remove the offending remark, but we have it up right here.

Now Entertainment Weekly has reached out to The Avengers director Joss Whedon.

Whedon’s response?

“I’m sorry to hear it. I’m a fan.”

Seems very Captain America-like to me.

The Avengers 2 assembles May 1, 2015 with Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, and the Guardians of the Galaxy movie on August 1, 2014.

Head on over to the Cosmic Book News The Avengers Movie Hub for more news, images and trailers.

“The Avengers Is Appalling” Says The Dark Knight Rises Wally Pfister

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3583:]]

Have a new movie coming out and want to grab the headlines?

Why not attack the most successful movie of the year.

That’s what The Dark Knight Rises cinematographer Wally Pfister seems to have done.

Or not.

In an interview – that has been edited to remove the following quote – Wally Pfister mentioned how “appalling” The Avengers movie was from the perspective of a “cinematographer.”

Pfister was not even asked about Joss Whedon’s movie, just: “What’s most important in shooting a film?” — and he went forth with a low blow against the mighty Assemblers.

What’s really important is storytelling. None of it matters if it doesn’t support the story. I thought ‘The Avengers’ was an appalling film. They’d shoot from some odd angle and I’d think, why is the camera there? Oh, I see, because they spent half a million on the set and they have to show it off. It took me completely out of the movie. I was driven bonkers by that illogical form of storytelling.

It’s a rather interesting statement, not just because The Avengers out performed Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film, but that The Dark Knight Rises actually had a higher budget and cost more to make — as Pfister makes the dig The Avengers “spent half a million on the set.”

Pfister also goes on to state that he would only work on a fourth Batman film (rumored for 2016) if he had to sell his house.

The original quote appeared on the Sarasota Herald Tribune (via Slashfilm), and was edited to state the following:

What’s really important is storytelling. None of it matters if it doesn’t support the story.
