Green Lantern Animated Pulled Because Of Low Toy Sales?

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3724:]]

Update: A Target employee has brought to our attention that there are actually no Green Lantern: The Animated series toys; however toys for Young Justice do exist but the line is a year old, so in regards to Green Lantern, it could be the movie toys not being big sellers in addition to all the below stated reasons for the two.

Another Saturday has come and gone and, once again, we don’t have new episodes of Green Lantern: The Animated Series or Young Justice to look forward to.

Both series were pulled after only two new episodes with the initial report citing Cartoon Network’s 20th Anniversary.

Fans went ballistic, lighting up Cartoon Network and DC Nation’s Facebook pages, and shortly thereafter, DC released an official statement stating that the shows would be back with all new episodes in January.

While we don’t think Cartoon Network will be celebrating their anniversary for three months, what exactly is the problem?

Turns out both Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice might share the same problem as the Transformers movie franchise — in that sales for toys are down.

The next Transformers movie will see all-new vehicle signs, or at least that is what has been hinted, due to sales for their toy line not selling so well as of late.

Regarding the DC Nation block, Bleeding Cool has it that the low toy sales are the reason for the two animated shows getting pulled, in that the low sales also created a domino effect cascading into advertising.

Other reasons are cited including production delays for new episodes, rights to characters and a purported falling out between Cartoon Network and Warner Bros.

Basically when it comes down to it, it’s about money.

Now with Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice getting pulled – and we might as well throw in Thundercats – this presents an interesting dilemma.

I would say that all three of the above shows are geared toward an older audience, possibly an audience that doesn’t buy too many action figures?

Or is it just that fans are burnt out by the gluttony of action figures on the market, or that there are just too many action figures out there, as the last few years have seen every type of figure you can imagine, with many characters getting literally dozens of variations, not to mention the toys are really cheap — and I don’t mean price-wise?

Regardless what the exact reason, this January will see the return of DC Nation to Cartoon Network with 10 new episodes of each, but will these be the last?

Michael Bay Blasts Hugo Weaving Over Megatron

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3586:]]

Hugo Weaving is on quite the roll as of late with the actor not only stating he doesn’t want to reprise his Red Skull role, but now he sounds off about voicing Megatron for the Transformers franchise.

Earlier, Weaving mentioned to the Collider that he is not really interested in doing the Red Skull again and hopes Marvel Studios doesn’t force his hand, as he is technically signed on for more than one movie.

In the same interview, Weaving voices his thoughts about voice-acting for Megatron and states he really had no idea what the movie was about, but that he went and did the job, while feeling it to be meaningless.

“That’s a weird job for me because it honestly was a two-hour voice job, initially. I was doing a play and I actually didn’t have time, anyway. It was one of the only things I’ve ever done where I had no knowledge of it, I didn’t care about it, I didn’t think about it. They wanted me to do it. In one way, I regret that bit. I don’t regret doing it, but I very rarely do something if it’s meaningless. It was meaningless to me, honestly. I don’t mean that in any nasty way. I did it. It was a two-hour voice job, while I was doing other things. Of course, it’s a massive film that’s made masses of money. I just happened to be the voice of one of the iconic villainous characters. But, my link to that and to Michael Bay is so minimal. I have never met him. I was never on set. I’ve seen his face on Skype. I know nothing about him, really. I just went in and did it. I never read the script. I just have my lines, and I don’t know what they mean. That sounds absolutely pathetic! I’ve never done anything like that, in my life. It’s hard to say any more about it than that, really.”

Well, if you are familiar with Transformers director Michael Bay, you know Bay doesn’t take much – stuff – as previously, I believe, Megan Fox was canned from Transformers for a Jewish comment about Steven Spielberg.

Now, Michael Bay sounds off via his official website (via Blastr) on Huge Weaving. While the director doesn’t specifically name Weaving, it’s all but a given.

“Do you ever get sick of actors that make $15 million a picture, or even $200,000 for voiceover work that took a brisk one hour and 43 minutes to complete, and then complain about their jobs? With all the problems facing our world today, do these grumbling thespians really think people reading the news actually care about trivial complaints that their job wasn’t ‘artistic enough’ or ‘fulfilling enough’? I guess The Hollywood Reporter thinks so. “What happened to people who had integrity, who did a job, got paid for their hard work, and just smiled afterward? Be happy you even have a job – let alone a job that pays you more than 98% of the people in America. “I have a wonderful idea for all those whiners: They can give their ‘unhappy job money’ to a wonderful Elephant Rescue. It’s the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Africa. I will match the funds they donate.”

I would also say that it is safe to assume that Hugo Weaving will not be back to voice Megatron for Transformers 4.

At least Peter Cullen will for Optimus.

New Transformers 4 Logo and New Robots So The Toys Sell Better

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3054:]]

We’ve previously heard about the new Transformers 4 movie, in that it’s a reboot featuring all new robots.

Now we find out the reason why, as apparently they want the Transformers toys to sell better.

Let me just interject as a parent real quick: THEN MAKE THEM BETTER. I refuse to buy my kids Transformer toys as they are made so cheaply — they fall apart. In short — they are crap! Ditto goes for G.I. Joe.

Getting back to Transformers 4, a new logo has also hit the net, dubbed a placeholder image, that was recently revealed at the UBS Conference, in addition to some details.

TFW2005.com has the goods:

• Transformers 4 is set to release in 2014 [June 29th]. People are asking about Transformers 4 and Hasbro plans for 2013.

• Transformers 3 didn’t meet expectations. What about Transformers 4? TF3 did well in boxoffice. Regarding toy sales… it’s because of same characters in all three movies.

• This is why Transformers 4 will have a new cast of [robot] characters and it will be a story revolving around these new characters.

• It’s normal for any brand to experience the situation (what happened to Transformers 3 toyline) and stated that brands need re-imagining, reinvent and hinted that the same is to happen with Transformers 4.

Optimus Prime As A Green Lantern in Defunct Justice League/Transformers Crossover

Check out some concept art for a Justice League/Transformers crossover by artist Phil Jimenez.

Jimenez posted some images on his Facebook, with the news that he and Chris Ryall pitched the crossover to DC Comics.

Looks a lot better than the Avengers/Transformers crossover, or at least, couldn’t be any worse.

And we see that Optimus Prime has indeed got the touch — the touch of the Guardians with a Green Lantern ring!

Fourth Bay Transformers Movie To Be Director’s Last: Sets Up Future Of Franchise

We get a quick tidbit about the fourth Transformers movie from director Michael Bay.

With the opening of the new Transformers themed ride at Universal Studios, of which Michael Bay had a part in, the director informs the LA Times Hero Complex that the upcoming Transformers reboot will be his last and sets up the future of the franchise for another. And again we hear mention of a new cast and versions of the Transformer robots.

The director, by the way, says that the fourth film will include some redesign of the robots and an entirely new cast. He also said it will be his last and set the franchise up “for the next guy.”

Previously, Transformers “4” has said to have a 2014 release date. The $100 million Transformers: The Ride — 3D opened May 24th.

Transformers 4 Reboot: None of the Cast Is Returning

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:692:]]Earlier it was confirmed that Paramount is rebooting Transformers with Michael Bay returning to helm the fourth movie in the franchise.

However, it seems none of the cast — at least the human cast members — will be returning.

EOnline caught up with Josh Duhamel at the Playstation PS Vita launch party, and the actor offered up that he will not be returning and that he doesn’t think any of the other cast members will be as well.

“I don’t think anybody’s doing it,” Duhamel said. “I know Shia [LaBoeuf]’s not doing it. I don’t think Tyrese or Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] or anybody else is doing it.”

Previously, Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, when mentioning the reboot, spoke about a whole new story and cast, but that it will still feature Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.

Duhamel goes on to remark about the decision to do another Transformers, with the reasoning quite obvious.

“Whenever these movies make that much money they’re going to make as many as they can,” he said. “[But] I haven’t heard anything about it. They haven’t called me.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:683:]]The producer on the Transformers franchise, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, spoke with MTV News, and confirmed that another Transformers movie will debut the Summer of 2014.

Bonaventura also stated that Michael Bay will return to direct the fourth movie featuring the Robots In Disguise –  and that it will be a reboot.

“Michael is going to direct, and it will be in the Summer of 2014,” Bonaventura told MTV. “He is excited, and I think the challenge is we are really going to do a reboot. And what that is going to be we don’t even know yet.”

Bonaventura goes on to talk about the reboot, and offers that it will essentially be a whole new story. In regards to the cast, the producer states of course Optimus and Bumblebee will be there, but the rest of the cast will be essentially new as well.
