Cool Fan-Made Rocket Raccoon Skottie Young Animated Image

Marvel recently announced a new Guardians of the Galaxy Rocket Raccoon comic book series from Skottie Young and debuted the cover and art as well.

Now a fan has taken the Rocker Raccoon cover and created the following animated image.

Speaking of animated, Young compared his new Rocket Raccoon series to Looney Tunes and Daffy Duck.

Should fit in real nice with NINO Nova and Bendis’ Garbage of the Galaxy.

Cool animation, though.

New Rocket Raccoon Comic Series Announced; Compared To Looney Tunes & Daffy Duck

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13981:]]

Right in time for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Marvel Comics has announced that Rocket Raccoon will get his own comic book by Skottie Young, who will be on both writing and art chores.

“I like any of the humorous characters, any of the ones I can have fun with,” Young told MTV. “And around this time Guardians of the Galaxy was getting restarted, so I said if there was any of way of doing some sort of Rocket Raccoon story that would be fun too!”

“Even though it was just a sliver of Rocket [in the trailer], I couldn’t wait to work on this guy even more,” Young continued. “I think it’s going to have a connection to that nostalgic feeling for Looney Tunes, that old animated flavor where everything wasn’t squeaky clean, you know? Daffy Duck would get his bill blasted off with double barrel shotguns… That’s what I grew up watching, and being able to play around with that in this hyper-superhero intergalactic universe will be a lot of fun.”

Groot is also to be featured in the book, and it’s learned former editor Stephen Wacker, who was behind the Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy relaunches, was initially behind Rocket Raccoon as well and nixed Groot being in the title.

The new Rocket Raccoon hits in July.

Cool Skottie Young Guardians of the Galaxy Variant Cover of Rocket Raccoon & Groot

I’m guessing Marvel is trying to match DC’s 52 variant covers on Justice League of America with their upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy reboot.

Below is the latest variant for Guardians of the Galaxy with a Skottie Young variant featuring younger renditions of Rocket Raccoon and Groot.

I’ve actually lost count how many variants there are, but the Gamora Guardians of the Galaxy cover by Italian artist Milo Manara is really nice as well, and features Gamora in her classic look to boot. Reminds me when Gabriel Del’Otto was doing the Annihilation covers.

Review: A-Babies vs X-Babies #1

“Avengers vs X-Men,” the massive Marvel Comics event, has come to an end. But now we get to see the Avengers and the X-Men battle it out like we’ve never seen them before – as babies! When little Steve Rogers has his Bucky Bear stolen by baby Cyclops, everyone who isn’t grounded or down with the chicken pox is called into action!

This comic is adorable. Not only is it a great all-ages book, but it’s also very fun to read. There are lots of hidden Marvel jokes, but all of them are funny whether you know the history of the characters or not.

Skottie Young has written another example of why all-ages comics can thrive in the market. All they need is the right creative team and the chance to shine. He writes the little Avengers and X-Men as cute but true miniaturized versions of themselves. You could also deconstruct this whole scenario as a metaphor for how the Marvel superheroes act sometimes during a conflict, but it’s much more fun to just love it as a humorous story.

Gurihiru does the interior art for this first issue. Each panel has life and energy that you wouldn’t expect from a book like this. When baby Thor throws his hammer it’s just as dynamic as when the adult Thor does it. The characters are expressive, the cartooning is spot on, and the tone makes you want to go back to your old neighborhood and play in the street again.

Marvel may have released the best all-ages title this year. Let’s hope that the series continues so that we can share this book with the younger people in our lives and the young at heart.
