Guardians of the Galaxy Would Kick The Avengers Butts Say Saldana & Bautista

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:9752:]]

At least the movies can get it right.

Marvel Studios and James Gunn brought the Guardians of the Galaxy to Comic-Con where heroes and villains alike were introduced.

Or should we say anti-heroes, because that’s how Gamora describes it.

“It’s the ‘Anti-Hero Hero Movie,'” Zoe Saldana said at the Comic-Con press conference, reports Yahoo. “These are thieves, rebels, assassins who come together to fight something actually much worse than them. And there’s actually a lot of comedy — the levity will be abundant.”

Fans of Marvel Cosmic know that the space heroes don’t just sit back and quarrel amongst themselves on Earth, but come together to guard the galaxy as well as being considered the galaxy’s mightiest. So as Marvel Studios has a new group of heroes to contend with, the Guardians of the Galaxy are already being compared to The Avengers.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:9753:]]

“We’re different than the Avengers,” Saldana added. “The Guardians have much ‘bigger’ powers. We could totally kick Thor and Captain America’s ass.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy’s cosmic powers set themselves in a league of their own (unless you are a Marvel Comics editor), and Dave Bautista, who plays the sworn archenemy of Thanos in the movie, agrees.

Drax could definitely beat up Hulk and Thor,” The Animal, as Bautista is referred to in the WWE offered. “Drax is an interesting creature. He’s full of rage and he’s full of honor. But the best thing about Drax is he’s hysterical, without really meaning to be.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy movie has an August 1, 2014 release directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt as Peter Quill Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer and Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Benicio Del Toro as The Collector, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Lee Pace as Ronan, Djimon Hounsu as Korath the Pursuer, with John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey and Glen Close as Nova Prime.

Also rumored for the movie are Ophelia Lovibond and Enzo Cilenti.

For news, images and more head on over to the Cosmic Book News Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Hub.

Synopsis:

Guardians of the Galaxy, based on the Marvel comic books of the same name, features an unlikely cast of characters who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions.

Still Hope For Dredd 2 Says Karl Urban: Video Sales Through The Roof

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:8916:]]Last we heard from Karl Urban, the actor said there was still a possibility for a Dredd sequel.

Recently, Karl Urban sat down with screenwriter Alex Garland and stated a Dredd sequel is not off the agenda.

Now we hear from Urban at Comic-Con who states here is still hope as sales for home video have been pretty huge.

“It’s certainly my hope that we get to make more … clearly it has found an audience,” Urban said during Comic-Con, reports AirLockAlpha. “The home video sales for Dredd just went through the roof. I think it sold 650,000 units in the first week.”

Karl Urban goes on to state that as long as the fans are behind more Dredd and remain vocal, hopefully the studio will take notice and something will get done.

“I think the more people that campaign for it, the more people that email, Twitter and write into Lionsgate and say ‘We want to see more of this,’ then the more likelihood is that we’ll get to see that,” Uban said. “We certainly are doing everything we can to ensure that happens.”

The R-rated Dredd only made around $36 million worldwide with a $45 million budget, contrary to rave reviews from both critics and fans alike.

Karl Urban can be next seen in the new sci-fi Fox series Almost Human.

Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla (2014) Is The Biggest Monster To Date; Talks Part 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:9672:]]

Previous to the Legendary panel on Saturday that revealed footage of Godzilla, director Gareth Edwards participated in an extensive interview where he spoke about the monster and more.

Regarding the look of Godzilla, as we have seen in the latest movie poster as well as the concept statue, they seem to be going for more of an original approach, with Edwards stating more of a modern version.

“We’ve worked really hard to get the design just right, modernize it,” Edwards offered. “I think if you literally did the original 1954 Godzilla – which was my favorite – it would not work; the guy in the suit aspect obviously wouldn’t stand up today. The idea was if that creature really existed and you witnessed it back then, and you kind of ran back to Tojo, and you tied to make a suit. When you see our Godzilla, you understand they arrived at that, but it’s like the literal, realistic version of that same species.”

Gareth Edwards then takes a fan question from Twitter about Pacific Rim and his thoughts on the recent Guillermo Del Toro kaiju movie. Edwards says he likes it and offers more of his own take on the Godzilla movie.

“We are trying to take it very seriously; it’s very suspenseful. You do have the big epic spectacle, but the sort of stylistically, the sort of films that we ended up referencing quite a lot were things from the late 70s and early 80s; the films that I grew up with and loved as a kid.” Edward said. “So we try to go back to that vibe and pace and tone and hopefully people will be surprised. I think one of the things I’m most proud of is the screenplay is quite emotional,” the director continued. “When you read it, the characters that drive us through this journey in the film, I hope that you really start to genuinely care about them. It was really important to me that the people you follow on this journey through all these events were people you were really rooting for and were real.”

Another fan also asked if this Godzilla movie is the beginning of a new franchise, with Edwards responding he would like that to be the case.

“I don’t look at it that way. I’ve tried to make the best film that we can as a I’m sure, I would love to play in this universe again. I have seen the love for Godzilla and what we have created, and hopefully if it does well enough they will invite me back to the party, and we’ll see what happens,” he said.

Edwards was then asked if Godzilla left room for more about the monster in later movies with the director not responding but smiling and laughing.

Gareth is also asked about the size of the Godzilla monster in the movie and offers it’s the biggest one to date. Godzilla is listed at around 328 feet, so Edwards’ monster will be slightly larger.

“I think I can say the tallest one that has ever been. Just about. It’s like when they build the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building and they put a little antennae on and it’s like it’s the tallest one. We did loads of tests for the size, it’s not like we just didn’t pluck it out; we did all these tests we created and he is a certain size for a reason. You make him too big, you can’t do any of the storytelling and have fun as much. If you make him too small he’s not quite as scary. I feel like the height we mad him is just right for him.”

You can watch more of Gareth Edwards talking Godzilla in the following video:
